Going Higher

Thanks to everyones advice I move my detector up the windshield under the RVM about 8 months ago. I never see laser around here so I want to move the detector even higher. I was thinking of mounting in between the RVM and ceiling but my RVM is so close to the headboard that my Detector can't squeeze in between. So, I will need to move it to the side. The issue here is my glass cures and I can't get the detector completely straight. Can't really give you an exact angle but it vears off to the left a little. I tried moving one of the suction cups higher but then the other one seems to have too much weight on it and falls .

Question:
Will a slight angle pointed to the left reduce my detection range by a noticeable difference?

When I was using my X50, I had it mounted low infront of the driver behind the steering wheel. it was facing toward the left and I noticed no reduction in rader detection.

It still alerted to Ka band with enough time to slow down.

Nah, the difference would be absolutely minimal - if you don't believe.

Go to your local store and drive towards one of the auto door openers until it goes off in your normal location - than move it to the "new" position and do it again. Not really scientific - but it'll give you an idea that it doesn't matter.

Yeah, KA was my main concern, I should have mention that in the post as well. With KA band being so wide and hard to detect, I defiantly need all the
Distance / Sensitivity that I can get. In fact, I was hit with " Instant On" KA today by NC State Patrol and we all know how deadly IO is. A rabbit ahead of you is the only true way to avoid this type of trap.

Yeah, I was going to move it up to the visor but when mounted it would point down towards the hood.... I could put something in between to make it straight but that looks tacky and is a driving hazard if it should fall.

I have both my V1 and the X50 and had them both mounted just to the left of the RVM and to me it was sometimes better than just under the RVM

It shouldnt have much difference. I basically only encounter Ka, and like your situation, my X50 is slightly pointing left. But I guess that the height and stealthiness makes up for it

Does it really matter? Out of sheer boredom I change my radar mount position for fun like every two weeks or so when I'm not driving seriously, and through my cop encounters I haven't really noticed a real-life difference in _radar_ detection range between the lowest and highest mount points I could do.

When I moved from low to High, I noticed a half mile difference.
I'm not sure if moving it up to the side of the RVM will be any
different but I was going to give it a try and see what happened.

From what I hear every 6 inches adds half a mile.
