Yep different bands. I think they are mainly in the S-L band.

lol you can track commercial aircraft online if you wanted and it's not a terrorist tool nor considered one. I'm a big aviation fan and I use to have a program that you could pay a monthly subscription for and you could track any plane be it commercial or not coming into/flying in/leaving from the US. Also there are several sites that offer free streaming ATC audio for most of the major airports in the US.

Was a very nice program to have when you wanted to know who's buzzing your house

i always thought that planes took peoples speeds by taking a series of pictures and then determining what altitude the plane is at, and the distance between the cars in photos, they could make up a formula to figure out your speed. thats what i thought...

I always thought, at least here in CA, that the planes overhead look at large white mileage marker stripes on the side of the road. They look for fast moving cars, and if they see one, they time it between these markers. They use a table to determine what speed the vehicle is going, and then call it in to a ground unit if they're speeding.

Also, I've read that the law here in CA states that measuring your speed by air alone is not sufficient. The ground unit has to get your speed also. So, if a plane sees you and radios it in, if you can avoid being radar'ed, lase'd, or paced by the ground unit, you can get out of it. Though they'll probably write you a ticket anyway and you'll have to go to court to get it thrown out.

Of course, I could be completely wrong on both points in which case you just wasted 45 seconds of your life reading this.

No, not quite mate. Here's something i picked this off a web page because i'm to lazy :?

VASCAR (Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder) is really a stopwatch coupled with a calculator. Once a distance is entered, the operator pushes a button to start then stop the stopwatch. VASCAR displays the speed calculated from the distance entered and the time measured.

Well, they were made by Electrolert (Company who made the Fuzzbuster) and were only sold briefly in the late 80's I believe. So, you have to look around on the used market for one, they are a bit scarce but there's some floating around out there...

I'm working on this great new anti-aircraft Vascar device.
They just hone in and take out the aircraft.
In "Auto Mode" it will launch a 2nd SAM if the 1st misses.
    Think Roy would be interested?
