I have been wondering why air plane radar does not set off radar detectors.
I know radar is used but why does a radar detector not pick up aircraft flying above?

I'm no aircraft expert, but as far as I know, they don't use anything in the police radar bands...
If you want to detect aircraft, you need one of these![]()

That device looks neat, however I don't think i'd want one of those, due to it being a terrorist type of device now days. It would just be asking for trouble if you got seen with it.

Definitely different frequency. I have a radio in my car but it does not pick up Satellite radio. Same thing.
A device that beeps when it picks up a signal on frequencies used by pilots is considered a terrorist device? That's no more a terrorist device than your X50.Originally Posted by StlouisX50

Well, if it was used to track planes, it could be considdered one.
The x50 tracks police radar, not large public transport.

The device that Jim posted doesn't track commerial planes, rather it tracks some frequency that was commonly used in police planes using VASCAR. (At least that was my understanding of what those do)
Such as the Cessna's or however you spell it. I found it from an old post.

Like Jim said they operate on bands outside of our RDs range, however some newer military aircraft RADARs operate using a pulse doppler X-band RADAR, so maybe if you want to pick up an F-22 coming at you, by all means keep the X-band sensors on
