1. Many many folks buy RDs and what not to prevent getting speeding tickets. I'd even say that this group is a majority. So I can understand where that sentiment comes from.
2. Speed itself doesn't kill, but does aggravate the collision/accident even more. Higher the speed, more carnage. The previous statement holds true whether one is going over the limit or not. LEOs get to witness this a lot, so it is natural to develop sentiment against speeding. Then there's all these studies that have headline-like conclusions (i.e. Speed Kills, etc), it does tend to color one's vision after hearing it over and over. Some also call this propaganda.
3. LEOs catch lots of folks with RDs, I'd again be willing to wager that a lot of them have cheapos and most of them don't know how to use one effectively. War stories in PD lounge room supports this notion.
Result is what one finds in that forum/thread. It shouldn't bother you. After all, underestimating an 'opponent' is a flaw that an opponent can exploit.
The one that got to me was 'RDs indicate intent to speed'. Just like buying a gun indicates intent to kill. :roll: Buying a gun is intent to shoot (sometimes it's called murder, sometimes self-defense, sometimes a hunt, etc); Buying an RD is intent to become aware of radar/lidar activity (sometimes it's speeding, sometimes it's a sweet look at RD, etc).
