Extended Warranty @ BestBuy/CircuitCity

Hi Everybody,
I'm still looking for the right RD for me. Right now it's in between the Bel 995 (CircuitCity) and the 8500 X50 (BestBuy). My main question is how good are these extended warranties they offer, anyone had any experience with them? Does it cover things like error or calibrate messages, or damage from hot or cold?
The V1 would be in my list, but I wanted to get a RD in town so that if I had any problems with it I could get a new one or get it fixed as soon as possible. I guess that kinda leads to another question, is it really that much of a hassle to sent in your RD to get it fixed?

For a year the big three do it for free. I guess if you by it from a major retailer you can return it for the length of the warrentee however, I've heard of some of them (Best Buy) reneging on a warentee as of late.

After your warrentee lapses its $80 right now to fix a Belscort. I believe its still $45 for the V-1.

I bought my X50 from a Best Buy in the Atlanta area. When I asked about an extended warranty, the sales associate said they didn't sell them for radar detectors any more. Also, they only give you 14 days to return or exchange radar detectors. Plus they charge a 15% restocking fee if you return it. That policy almost negates any benefit of buying local. However, I had a problem with my power cord a day after buying my X50 and I was able to exchange it the next day. Didn't have to pay for any shipping and wait for a replacement to arrive.

On the other hand, Radarbusters.com sells the X50 cheaper than Best Buy and gives you 30 days to return or exchange it. They still charge a 15% restocking fee for returns, but only if it has been opened. Also, if you send a PM to RadarRoy, he may give you a discount on the standard price.

If you buy from an authorized dealer, you can buy an extended warranty from Escort anytime during the initial warranty period of 1 year from the date of purchase. The cost is $29.95 and extends the warranty 2 years past the initial warranty period. I did this for mine a couple of weeks ago.

Supposedly BB did stop the extended warranty on RD's. But, I was able to get the warranty about a month ago.

If you can get the warranty, it is all-encompasing. You can bring it in for any reason and they exchange it on the spot.

bel will extend their warranty 2 years (i think) for around $30. id rather do that than bb's or cc's.

Why? You have to send it in and wait for it to come back. BB or CC is on the spot exchange.

really? when i called, the guy told me $65 was the flat rate repair fee for beltronics

agreed I have yet to need roys customer service the products i got from him work soi good but i do know if there was a problem Roy would take care of me
