thanks for all the inputs ... very informative. SOunds like a dash mount and a laser shifter in conjunction would be most useful.

When speeding, would turning on headlights be advisable?
    1) gives doubt to officer you are using a jammer when their device doesn't give a reading.
    2) cuts down the efficiency of the laser signal.

I live in Hong Kong. Seeing the police force was formed by the british govt, I suspect HK will use the same technology.

Not sure where i'd find the info though... any ideas?

I saw a group of officers on the side of the road once, they were crowed around this device as I was on way in to the airport, on the way out they had blocked traffic to run tests on it using a patrol vehicle.

Big sized, on a tripod, and looked like an oversized binocular. Not seen it since but may come into service soon...

Otherwise the laser devices they use are handheld. One guy shoots you, the other records your lic then radios down the way where motocops stop you. Never got a close enough look at the gun to recognize though.

X50 and V1 work well on the fixed post mounted Ka cameras and tripod temporary cameras. Just need to memorize positions and be careful when near them.

Any ideas on the types they use here in HK or in UK would be of great help.

On the ZR3 Exscort shifter. Do I understand correctly. It will deflect the warning, brake, then turn it off and then shooters will get a delayed reading. Is this how it works?

Looking at the 9800 also. too bad it doesnt interface with the ZR3.
    Thanks!

Whether or not #2 pans out to be true is of-debate. More than likely, it's not really going to affect things, either way, in a "real-world significant" manner.

As to #1, that may be a valid approach. However, if one's concern is to not raise a stink about the potential of jammer presence in the first place, then no, it would not be "preferred."

When speeding, I would do anything possible to make yourself blend into the traffic - do whatever your fellow drivers do. If their lights are on, turn yours on, if they're off, turn yours off.

    That's not quite right.

The ZR3 detects the incoming LIDAR beam, then alerts you and simultaneously uses a look-up-table to output a jamming signal.

The first press of the mute button disables the audible alert signal.

The second press of the mute button puts the jammer into "receive only" mode - where it will continue to visually alert to the LIDAR, as long as the operator is actively targeting you or as long as the ZR3 detects scatter, but it will not output a jamming signal, thus allowing the police LIDAR to pick up your speed.

look what some searching turned up. you guys recognize any of these?

Not sure if this is the only one (mentioned in above possible new bogie technology) but it is the typical gun they use. I know they have both short range and long range Lasers. Introduced in 1996.

    Here's another pic:

Moveable stations on public roads Ka or laser? (sometimes manned, sometimes unmanned):

Movable stations used by private toll concessions companies:
I've also seen these in the private tunnels operated by private companies put out Xband. Unmanned but look just like the above with cone. These are Xband, X50 and v1 has picked them up.

    Fixed Postition Ka:

    In car:
They also have in car cameras but i think with these they video record you and pace your speed.

    Motorcycle mounted:
Heard they also have the ones on motorbikes... not sure if these are lasers or radars if it can be used while they are moving. Mounted on the new Police Honda CBR's.

I see... So press the second time when you are at a "safe" speed.
    8)
Seems the cushion time between slowing down and pressing the button in time to give the officer something and his gun setting off jammer warning very short... shorter than most avg people's reflexes? (Especially when you are slowing down from 180k/hr + to 80~100km/hr) or does this really work, real world.

    ^ Correct.

Yes, the time-to-reflex is short. But of-course, this depends on circumstance.

I would say that although true "ultra-speeders" / "professional speeders" would *require* these countermeasures, their cases are rather unique, and for them, a true JTG device may be "necessary" in order to offer them the protection they need and to give them best-odds against being either pulled-over or cited.

For those of us who may be able to keep our speeding to a more reasonable pace, "slowing-to-reasonable/PSL," especially given an alert driver, good circumstances (i.e. being able to see the enforcer before he targets you, or being at sufficient range to react), should give one good chances of evading problems.

Thanks for the info. Sorry... what is "JTG" and "PSL"?

I am of the former that you mention which is why this is so important. 5am (minimal cars on road) runs packs of 5- 10 cars. Too bad we have to do this on the street but the only track is in China and a weekend at the track costs 1200USD just for the enrollment fee. So needless to say, we don't go as often as we would like to. As well I go through periods where I drive faster and faster until I get nailed then I go through a scared slow period... probably a good thing but it is EASY to loose your lic here.

When we are ultra speeding, I guess I'd rather be fined than get my license taken away. (better check the laws to see whether loosing lic can be part of punishment for using illegal jammers)

Speed limit here on most highways is 50~62mph. Only one highway to the airport is limited at 68mph. The most you can go over with out points off is 9mph. There fore not speeding is not an option really... for guys that just live to drive.

Oops! Sorry! ops: I keep forgetting that such abbreviations may confuse newcomers, as well as those who are from the other side of the world. My sincere apologies!

"JTG" = (J)am (T)o (G)un. That means that the jammer has the capability of, literally, jamming the LIDAR all the way to the source of its signal.

In the real world, jammer capability is only half the equation - the other depends on several variable real-world factors.

    "PSL" = (P)osted (S)peed (L)imit. Self explainatory.

(better check the laws to see whether loosing lic can be part of punishment for using illegal jammers)
^ Exactly. This would be a big concern.

Also, in this context, you it should serve well to point out that here in the US, even if the enforcer's LIDAR signal is positively jammed, the officer can still pull you over and/or issue various citations. There's always manners by which the law can be manipulated to trap the speeder, and in your case, engaging in what must be an illegal activity ( as you said, it is unfortunate that enthusiasts must resort to such dangerous methods, due to the fees involved otherwise  ) will definitely give the enforcers another reason to try to initiate not only a traffic stop, but also try to cite you for other issues.

Here in the States, for example, even if the use of laser jammers is legal, the officer can still cite the vehicle/jammer operator for things such as "obstruction of justice" (i.e. preventing the officer from doing his public duty), etc.

There fore not speeding is not an option really... for guys that just live to drive.
    ^ Understood!

    This is not acceptable... haha

Any chance you see the other post I made with pics of the devices used here?

Want to confirm systems I'm looking will protect me against them. Thanks :!:

^ Unfortunately, I am not well-versed enough to offer good guidance in terms of hardware identification ops: , I was hoping that some other, more experienced members would step-in to help.

In the mean-time, you can try looking at the excellent "Know your LIDAR guns!" page on the GOL hobbyist website:

    http://www.guysoflidar.com/laser-guns.html

I am not certain how much this will help you, though, due to your location.

    Best of luck!

thanks for the link. 90% sure it's this one:
LTI Ultralyte LR Rev 1 or a LTI Ultralyte LR B

    Specs:

Found another pic of the tripod radar but only on european sites... think it's Belgiun. Anyone know about this device?

Fixed believe it's a Gatso, get's you from behind and widely used in UK:

I've heard of speeders getting pictures taken from the front from non-fixed cameras. (This is bad because you can't use someone else's name -usually your girlfriend hehe - to absorb your points) Any leads to what kind of devices these may be?

This is interesting, a list of approved radar devices for International Association Chiefs of Police with specs:
