    Default Helicopter Radar

I was driving to school this morning on a long stretch on highway. This has been my route my about 3 years so I know where I get all of my falses. Anyways I was driving, then I suddenly get an X-Band alert that I normally don't get. It seemed to be in front of me cause it was ramping up, so I slowed down and I looked around and saw nothing. A couple of minutes later I see a police helicopter just hovering above the highway! It was pretty high-up, I could just make out the "POLICE" lettering on the side.
I had no idea they could do this!

You can't get radar from an aircraft??? So do you think that it might be a coincidence? I dunno, I didn't get the alert on the way home.

    OK People, one more time

Radar or laser guns are not used in helicopters or airplanes. Enough said.
X band might of been old radar detector.

Well not everything But I DO know that regular speed radar and laser cannot be used from aircraft (way too much cosine error). If it X-band actually DID come from the hellicopter, then perhaps it was part of some sort of aircraft system, transponder, navigation, etc. Otherwise, the X-band false alert was from another source and the helicopter just happened to be a coincidence.

Plus the helicopter couldn't be above or to the side of you. It would have to be in front or behind you to actually measure your speed if that was even possible.

Jim is correct on this issue.

Infact, I have received K band falses from Trains before. From what I have read, it has something to do with their braking system.

So chances are the Helicopter was emitting some sort of signal that had nothing to do with speed monitoring.
