    Default new whistler?

so much for all the hype - i think they need to go back and reevaluate what it means to be comparable to the top units. maybe they were referring to size and weight cause the performance just wasnt in the same league.

I guess they are competing with the RX55. Originally they were out to compete with the RX65,X50, etc. but I am not sure when that changed.

I was dissapointed too. It would be nice to have more than 2 companies (Beltronics/Escort and Valentine Research) making the best detectors. I hope Whistler is able to come up with something that kicks a$$ in the future.

I think you need to look at the data again.

1st- The XTR-690 and Pro-78 on average outperformed the $225 RX55 on all Ka frequencies.
    2nd-The XTR-690 and Pro-78 was on par with the 8500 X50 #1 in run 1 of the 35.5 test
    3rd-The XTR-690 and Pro-78 beat the V955 in run 2 of the 35.5 test
    4th-The XTR-690 beat the 9500i #1 and 9500i #2 in run 1 of the 34.7 test
    5th-The XTR-690 and Pro-78 beat the 9500i #2 and the V1 #3 in run 2 of the 34.7 test
6th- The XTR-690 and Pro-78 was on par or beat the 9500i #1 in run 3 of the 34.7 test
    7th-The XTR-690 and Pro-78 beat the RX65 in run 1 of the 33.8 test
    8th-The XTR-690 beat the RX65 and the 8500 X50 #2 and the V955 and on par with the 9500i #1 in run 2 of the 33.8 test
    9th-The Xtr-690 beat the RX65 and the 8500 X50 #2 in run 3 of the 33.8 test
10th-The XTR-690 and PRO-78 are on par or beat the 9500i #2 on run 2 of the K band test
11th-The XTR-690 is on par or beat the 9500i #2 and the STi driver #2
    12th-The XTR-690 and Pro-78 have a 3 year warranty

I've reviewed the data multiple times and to me it seems the Whistler unit is not as good as the V1 and the top performing Belscorts.

Do you disagree with my opinion and think the Whislter unit is the same level performance wise as the V1 and best performing Belscorts?

What would be nice is if Belscort and VR ever mended their rift and combined into one corp.

I wouldnt like that- there would be no incentive for research and development and competition. I am afraid we would get one RD and thats about it. I mean if they are all one giant company, why improve?

    It's not $250-$450 either.

I guess the difference of opinion comes down to marketing terms.

The units were to compete in most real world conditions by giving you similar advanced warning to give you more time to correct your speed.

If my math is correct, the Whistler XTR-690 and Pro-78 would have alarmed on average only 1 to 1.5 seconds behind the top of the line Escort and Bel models on Ka band based upon the test results.

At 34.7 the XTR-690 and Pro-78 on average alerted 1 second behind the average of the V1's

Question is, does anyone feel 1 to 1.5 seconds is similar?
Certainly more similar than 3-4 seconds.

Price is of no concern to me when I consider what is the best. For those people concerned about price, they could compare the Whistlers to say the Beltronics 955 and see which one they like better.

Marketing terms don't form my opinion. Testing detectors and using them form my opinion.

I understand what your stating about the difference in seconds on our extremely difficult test and I think the results were close together because of how difficult the test course was. I'm thinking you temporarily forgot that LEO's use instant on radar in the real world. Only the most sensistive detectors will get you the most protection from instant on radar.

I think a Whistler detector would be great if you only have to worry about constant on radar, but I would not recommend using one if you want the best protection from instant on.
