Default speed trap caught on satellite ! yes satellite

While mapping speed traps in our NavAlert database I came across a funny image on google maps. The image actually has the police car in the sat image. This is the second time I noticed a police vehicle in a speed trap location on google maps.

Ironically there is now also a speed camera 20 feet from this location.

I dont know if you mean GPS has a subscription fee, no it does not, if your asking if Navalert has a monthly fee, no.

Neither have fees, some camera detectors in Europe charge monthly fees for updates, we have not.

I love my GPS, but don't see how GPS can help us with speed traps. Sure you can have custom POIs that show where common speed traps are, but by no means would it be as affective as a CB or RD.

Let me try to help here Asianfire.

The common sense approach is always to pick countermeasures, based on the enforcement tactics you are going to face in your area.

RD's are obviously essential because mobile radar is the most common threat. But there is no one perfect product that is going to cover you for every type of trap or enforcement system out there.

If you're up against laser you'll start by adding in a jammer too for a better level of protection and if you're in a part of the country where you're facing speed cameras, Red light cameras or Speed-on-Green red light cameras, etc, you are going to pretty soon going to be adding some kind of GPS reminder for them.

You're are right in what you say. When it comes to a movable target like a speed trap, GPS is not the best defence you can use. but GPS is not meant for that - its strength is for fixed camera alerts and warning of the cameras that your RD or LJ don't alert to. RD's can struggle against laser and can be caught out by instant on, etc, and somtimes GPS reminders of common mobile sites is the only defence available. I would nevert rely on it exclusively myself, but adding it your arsenal can only help.

Some drivers (none on here ) wouldn't dream of using a radar detector or jammer, but would be quite comfortable with a GPS pnly detector, covering fixed cameras and giving them reminders to slow down in areas where there might be a trap.

My favorite phrase - it's all about using the right tool for the right job (and the right person.) You may not need it in your area just now but I predict that as cameras spread and GPS detectors get better at integrating with detectors to get rid of false alarms, etc. most board members will be using it in some form or another within two years.

In Western Europe, most drivers will rely on GPS alerts as their only countermeasure, becuase it deals with the main threat. Only an educated minority genuinely understand the need for having all three in the car. On my GPS I tend to switch off common mobile site alerts because I prefer using an RD and jammer for traps.

I always scan thru our traffic cameras before I take off.

Here's a small town cop I caught a little bit ago. They shoot IO K band from this spot right at the rear of the fast lane traffic. Because of the way the barrier is, you can't see him unless you know how to look for him and even then it's hard.
