Best RD for my (and possibly others) situation?

Hello all, I am looking for the radar detector to best suit my needs and it seems that giving as much info as i can to those of you versed in the radar detector world would be the best idea... at least better than my previous poll (although it did give me the answer to the question V1 vs 9500i) (the V1 definitely took that one) However i am still not convinced i should buy the V1.... So....

I live in Dallas, TX most of my driving is around the suburbs and then the occasional road trip to Austin and back. Mostly major streets, highway, and residential areas (that seems like a "duh!").

I drive a Mazda RX8 (don't care what anyone says, i love it).

I have purchased Veil and the Laser Shield however SUCK at applying Veil (i have the antithesis of "surgeon's hands")... I am however, determined to learn no matter how many re-tires it takes and cans of Veil i must purchase.

I speed... a lot... have 3 speeding tickets of 30+ to prove it and several others for lesser violations, yet i am just now getting around to purchasing a RD (I know, I'm an idiot. Sue me).

So based on these parameters what laser detector ($500 or less) is the best way to go???? I am looking for PROTECTION first, bells and whistles are just a bonus i don't need it to wipe my a$$ for me, i need it to detect leos trying to give me a ticket! (although if the a$$ wiping thing were an option... never mind).

Escort 8500 X50 and spend the saved money on a laser jammer TX is big on laser guns

Im a big V1 fan. But i to would suggest the Escort x50 bc it has nice filtering for the city and the remote mute is a priceless feature. Then spend the extra money on a laser jammer. :idea:

More like the surgens hands on Hostel. No but be patient, it takes time to learn. Start from the top and let it run down. Gravity will even it out.

alright... so a laser jammer? what if i don't mind spending the extra cash... i want the best radar detector and if i find it truly necessary in the future ill buy a jammer as well. whats the best combo of the two (RD and laser and/or radar jammers?)

Not sure there is a best RD but plenty of good ones out there.

I personally would get the V1 or STi if you want the best, But keep in mind, this is MY personal opinion not everyone will agree. If you do city driving i would say STi. If highway than V1 and those arrows def come in handy no matter what people say. Also i would mix that with a dual head LPP or AL..

If you purchase a laser jammer down the road and Laser Interceptor retail unit perform as good as prototype then def go for it. It is said to come out in April but we'll see. If so and the retail units are as good as the prototype, you bet i will buy a unit.

Please keep in mind "NO RADAR DETECTOR WILL SAVE YOU FROM INSTANT-ON" Ask me how i know....

With the speeding you do and tickets you've gotten you need a laser jammer too. Trust me, I've been speeding for 25 years and have not had a ticket in a decade.

I'd get the Bel RX65 because I can read the display easier than the Escort I had. Don't try to save a few bucks on this stuff. It pays for itself real quick and that doesn't even take into account insurance hikes from tickets.

I'd also get either covers and/or sprays for cameras. These work. I've triggered cameras twice and never got a ticket.

yeah X50 and Jammer............ Dallas is all kinds of Laser.......... hasnt come out in full force over here towards Ft. Worth............. but its comin...... sooner or later
