    Default Recommendation needed

Hi everyone.. I was hoping to get some sort of a recommendation on what radar detector I should consider getting. I currently have a passport x50 (blue). This thing got me two tickets in two days going to/from florida. One was on the interstate which I think was IO and the other was on a city street, I got clocked at 45 in a 30 where the cop was sitting off in a parking lot. I was never alerted either time. Needless to say I have no been happy with the escort.

I have had past luck with Bel detectors and have never gotten even one ticket with them. My driving consists of Indiana city driving, and interstate driving from Indiana-Florida and Indiana-Texas.

I have considered the V1 but am not sure if it is cost-effective. My price range goes up to $500 as I will be selling the X50.

STI driver. its invisible and mine is decent (except for during sub zero winter temps where it takes forever to warm up or laser alerts which scare the crap out of me)....

If KA is your cencern, STI driver or V1 would suite you very well.

    Default X2

X2, the STi and V1 are both great rd's. The STi does need to improve it's detection on ka 33.8 though. No big deal, it should happen in due time.

I'm not sure detectability is something that will be of great need to me, if any at all.

KA is what they mostly radar with around here in Indiana from my experience, and I haven't gotten any tickets here in a long while. I was nailed in Kentucky and Florida for my last tickets though. I just looked at the settings on my X50 and have them set to X off, K on, KA on, POP off, and Laser on.

I think KA and Laser are my greatest concerns, but I may be wrong. Thanks for the opinions so far and I am researching all of the posted detectors.

If you are on the interstate as much as you say V-1 is your best bet. In the city you need to slow down anyway. IMHO.

On the interstate pace someone and let them stay about 1/4 mile in front of you. I have not had a ticket in 25 years doing this. Don't ride on their bumper. I saw a Florida Trooper pull over 5 cars at one time doing this.

Thanks. I don't do much speeding through the city but I still prefer to have detection capabilities.

    :?

Yes, use a 'rabbit' or two in front to be safe. Specially if the traffic is light. Construction zones I stay very close to the PSL. Double fines hurt too much. Plus in Illinois, Ryan's law is enforced, named after the firefighter killed at a accident scene. You must slow down and get away from the emergency vehicle if possible.

    Take care,

IO is deadly and no matter what detector you have you are screwed.

Find a rabbit. otherwise IO leaves you toast

    HOLD ON A SEC...
your sayinbg that neither time you were alerted at all or neither time did you have enough warning. Even if they used instant-on you would have gotten a warning when they shot you. To me it sounds a lot more like a laser problem or maybe your X50 is broken. What does it say on the ticket did they get you with radar. If they got you with lidar they keep your X50 and get a good lidar jammer. If they got you with radar then i would just do a little testing with your X50 make sure it is not broken. To me it doesn't sound like your detector is the problem.
