Default New Jersey Radar Guns Used as of 9/2006

I am not sure where to post this but I ran across this while surfing around. It has to do with what bands of radar are used in New Jersey.

    www.utrc2.org/research/assets/rfps/2007-16.doc

"The New Jersey State Police have solely used K55 as a speed detection device in the moving mode. Other stationary means of speed detection have been used, e.g., VASCAR and stop watch speed timing. Both methods did not employ radar."

"An informal survey of 27 State / Provincial Police agencies revealed the following:

    (19) agencies use Ka band radar in the moving mode.
    (2) agencies use K band radar in the moving mode.
    (4) agencies use X band radar in the moving mode, (includes N.J.S.P.).
    (2) agencies do not use radar in the moving mode - only stationary mode."

"Two leaders in the industry of moving radar, MPH and Stalker radar have sent representatives to Division Headquarters and installed new Ka band units into two marked troop cars being utilized solely for construction supplemental overtime."

Don't know where you got that from but its inaccurate. The NJ State Poice have been using Laser for about 3 years and have undergone a gradual switch to K band for the last 2.

Well, do you know how long it will take for most of the LEOS to be rid of those x band guns? I hear they are working on getting rid of them, just curious how long it will take?

    A long time...

    Hopefully FOREVER!

And it seems like most towns below I-195 use X-band as their primary radar band... though of course there is also a little K- and a bit more Ka-.

I've noticed that heading north on the turnpike by exit 11 on, its all K band and no X band. Its gradually making its way south. THey are still testing but the transition has been ongoing.r

So, 27 out of approximately 500 agencies.

    One hell of a gap.
