    That's good news.

I can confirm that the X50 works brilliantly. The V1 also works well. I haven't tried the RX65; you should speak to nvr2fast for Hong Kong experiences of that model.

Default Re: Newbie seeking advice - Hong Kong (but general questions

Hi, all! I am newbie on this forum but also from Hong Kong. I would like to share some info on importing radar detector coz I purchased a Cobra RD on ebay last year and have it posted to Hong Kong from US without any problem when picking it at Post Office.

I would like to know for those friends using X50 if they have difficuity on read the screen because the screen direction similar to V1 for left-hand drive users.

Now, I am not using the Cobra anymore because the RD was short circuited when I tried to connect the power cord to cigarette lighter port (silly me). So, I am looking for another RD such as Bel STi, RX65. Any advise on STi? Thanks!

Assuming the STi is effectively an RX65 with RF shielding, then I'd recommend against the additional expense of the RX65. I have no experience of the RX655 and cannot vouch for that.

My X50 has served me very well indeed in Hong Kong. It is very reliable and gives me ample warning - enough to shave 20km/h off my speed without braking at all agressively.

My V1 gives about 50% more warning against Ka band in Euro mode, but I am told that there are some Ka band detectors it outside it's Euro-mode detection and also it is a b**** to program and the display is pants.

If you can hang on for a week or so, a couple of us in HK are going to test out the Bel966 and the Bel550. Will report soon.

    Default Make it simple

Thank goodness for a direct forum topic on this issue!
I am HK guy who wants to buy simple- but effective- radar detector.

It seems that after looking ant many models/reviews that i don't need to buy one with all the bells/whistles or the top of the line for HK. One post said they turn off the X and K for HK. Bel seems to be the best overall quality/price.

Can someome be so kind to tell me what radar is used in HK, do I need to buy something like the Bel995 as it is engineered for the UK market (supposedly the HK Police use UK/European radar syatems), and which model possibly someone uses that is not top of the line but works excellent in HK?

    Thanks- zoom zoom...
