Ok so lets say we are going down a road.
And we get a K band alert. We can see the cop barely. It's constant on.
Does he have our speed?
Really I am curious exactly how far they can reach on a straight away.

Maximum radar range? See this thread:

I'm pretty sure he has to have a direct line of sight of you. But if he did, and you had a weak signal? I'd think he would have to be closer to you. But I really dont know for sure, good question!
Basically what I thought, but not 100% clear.Originally Posted by jimbonzzz
At those maximum range when you are by yourself with no other vehicles - yes it can get your speed. With multiple vehicles, it will be harder to determine who is speeding specially with multiple lanes even with staright away. LEO has to have good visual in order to pinpoint who is speeding. If you're by yourself and the radar clocks you, citation will be handed with no doubt.
There are couple of factors to consider as to who gets the citation. Was the target vehicle alone? Was the antenna angle pointed towards you? Was there more than 1 vehicle in the target area? Rain or snow affects radar performance. The alert sound and signal strength is a good indicator that you are in the target area of the radar beam. Weak alerts usually cannot get your speed and stronger alerts specially when full is a good indication that there is a very high possibility that it can clock your speed. Really, distances vary depending on the situation. There is no standard for this as far as distance is concerned.
Bottom line, if it's constant on and you have a radar detoctor, you have enough time to slow down.
Very nice info, thank you. I actually forgot about some of those factors such as the rain, or other cars, or where the antenna is facing.Originally Posted by Azonehits
Great thing my RD can see through hills, and radars cant!![]()
Radar can clock your speed before you get out of a curve or before LEO can see you in right conditions. But i don't know if that is admissible in court.Originally Posted by maskellxx
