Default Can instant on be used from overpasses?

We know how Leos love to shoot laser from overpasses to easily get their targets.

I dont see why instant on Radar cant be used in the same way?

Does cosine error somehow play into this? Or does the elevation prevent this?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm just always thinking

There are a couple of places around the St. Louis area that this happens. Even in departments that have laser guns. Officers not trained with laser guns, late at night, like to shoot IO with hand held radar guns.

Cosine error is minimal as long as they aren't trying to shoot car 20 feet away from the overpass, but instead targeting them down the road a little.

i would imagine they dont use it because of their signal traveling farther than because of cosine error. If the leo is up high and blasts io then the signal will travel much farther than a cruiser aiming at traffic and set off rd's for miles.

The county mounties here have been known to run speed traps shooting from overpasses.

Radar from an overpass is a tactic that's been used for as long as there's been hand held radar--no different that leo sitting on the on/off ramp shooting traffic in the a$$.

The reason I posed this question I because I know its pretty much different every place. Just like in my other post about rear laser shots I notice that only certain states or PD like to do it.

I have never seen instant on being used from an overpass in CA. I'm not denying it hasnt been done though.

    Interesting feedback guys.

    Thanks!
