LET THE BIRTH OF MANY TESTING GROUPS HAPPEN!
You want to know what it is like doing something for the love and passion and not for the mighty dollar then look up GOL!
buyradardetectors rocks!
Keep in mind everyone that in theory every 6db is double the range

It's Linear?? (range/db's)
So, if I understand this correctly each radar detector, whistler, bel, val etc etc etc is shipped, from where it's made with variances in the db's? It really wouldn't suprise me, as most manufacturing plants have specs on everything made really.
About the lab tests done by Mike B. From the way I understand it, all of the units were done in the same indoor location. The indoor location would be the "constant" in his "experiment". This means to me, that the data is valid. It's a sensitivity experiment right? Can't really argue that point. Experiments done outside on the same hills, angles etc etc can be compared to eachother as well, but would be harder as temperature, humidity and interference changes. Since the outside numbers are hard to control, people like me like data on inside experiments on sensitivity, it's better data in my opinion. I'm sure there are many different ways for radar detector makers to emit their signals to improve performance in outside conditions but for the most part they line up fairly close to inside tests. Is every 6 db's really double range? It's hard for me to believe as I don't think it is linear, but what do I know, I'm just some dumb forum junkie!
Thanks for the test Michael B, btw my XTR 690 will ship to me in less than 2 weeks they say![]()
Yeah I love lab tests too especially when the same lab is used and the same person is performing them. One can not get more consistent than that. Good job on ordering a 690. This is the best way we can show support for Michael B. and show him our appreciation for his STELLAR contributions to us.Originally Posted by Flashed32

can't wait to see my 9500i up on that big board. she's gonna move mountains and make mike valentine lose sleep. well probably not but here's to a little hope!
How about adding the V955 from the GOL test to this list? I could send my 955 but that wouldn't be the same as using the one from the GOL test. If that one can't be located, then I can volunteer my 955.
Table/graph on page 2 updated with stealthJamal's Oct '06-tested STi.
Tentatively, two more STis, an x50, and a 9500i will be added as they become available.
(If anyone has some data analysis or formatting ideas they'd like me to add to the next revision of that spreadsheet, PM them to me.)
dag Jamals did pretty good.
What this shows me is that manufacturing variance SUCKS! I can not believe that we pay top $$$ for these high end detectors to only get less DB's than what we paid for![]()

I have 2 STi's the one that was just tested is the one I use everyday and was also the STi used at the GOL October 2006 radar test. My other STi is STi #3 used in the GOL Arizona test back in March 2007. From what I could tell in the real world the STi I use more (the most recent tested by Michael B) seemed to have a slight edge over the other. Both of my STi's are real close though and either one is a fine detector.
I already made up my mind that I am going to sell STi #3 and keep STi used in 2006 test. Michael B's test just confirmed what I wanted to do. Thanks again Micheal B!!!!!!!!!!!!!
