    Default V1 vs RX65 on a K-band speed sign

The city I live in put up one of their free radar detector testers, aka K-band speed trailer, up on a road I travel on frequently.

I made a couple passes at it with my RX65 and V1. RX65 in highway, V1 in A mode. I did not run both detectors at once. Road is relatively straight and flat but there is a slight curve before the speed sign.

RX65 picked it up at 0.3 miles. V1 picked it up at almost 0.4 miles, so the difference in detection was probably under 500 feet between the two.

I'm hoping to get my X50 back from my friend tomorrow, so when I do I'll shoot a video of all three against the sign, if it's still up.

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Thats cool, I always figured the V1 was more sensitive than the RX-65 on K band, now only if it was a Ka speed sign, if they make those (I have never seen on in my town). Should grab that X50 and get a video up . In St. Louis they only leave those speed signs up for like 4-5 days but idk about yours...

IIRC the RX65 showed it in the 24.180 - 190 range.

I have seen a few Ka speed signs.
Nebraska has a couple KA speed signs in construction zones.

I haven't seen a Ka "your speed is" sign around here, but Concord has a construction messageboard with a Ka drone, I encountered it last weekend. Must be a Stalker as it showed up around 34.7.

Update: I got my X50 back, and drove past the sign with it yesterday. It picked it up around 0.4 miles, roughly the same distance as the V1. I guess it proves that the X50 (rev 5) rules the roost on K band! I haven't had a chance to do a video yet.

Now I need to find a stationary, continuous Ka source to do some passes at.

kpatz, can you please run the test from the back side of the sign.

Detecting forward shooting radar is like shooting fish in a barrel. Even the cheapest unit would be sufficient.

I would love to see the difference between the RX65 and the V1 when detecting only REFLECTED signal.

The reason I ask is because I tested a Whistler against a V1 on X band today. When driing around the corner as the radar is facing right at me both units alerted at almost exactly the same place. Where the difference came in was from the other side and the next block over the V1 picked up the radar where the Whistler remained silent.
This is what V1 is all about, reflected and over the hill, scatter and very low signal to noise ratio signals.

When you check from the back side of the sign you must ensure there are no oncoming cars or it will throw off the results.
