Default New Guy here and I'm a little worried

Hey guys, great site you have here. I have been browsing for a few weeks.

This is my situation, I have been looking at getting a good RD for almost a year now but had kept putting it off (I'm a poor college kid, who only works in the summers). I finnaly got my first big paycheck this summer and I decided to spend a portion of it on a Passport Escort x50 red (my interior lights are red). After doing some research and looking for a good deal I decided to go with overstock.com. I talked to the online CS rep for almost an hour and he assured me that the detector was "brand new in box". When it was all said and done I paid $253 (he gave me a %10 discount for being a new customer). So I'm not going to lie I was pretty satisfied that I got it for 50 bucks cheaper than most (thats 5 hours of work yo!). But then I decided to search "overstock" on y'alls website and I found some disturbing things. RadarRoy saying that they were selling refurbs and that they were not authorized sellers yadda yadda.

    Should I be worried?
How can I know if it was refurbished?

I should get it in the mail tommrow and have 30 days to return it

    Thanks!

relax and no worries. they are very durable units and hopefully everything is working great. the non authorized seller thing is not that big of a deal, if it breaks down later on down the road its just 50 dollars to fix it.

enjoy your purchase and let us know how you like it.

Thanks for the quick response, I mean I'm not to worried but if I knew this I would of shelled out the extra 50 for one on this website... oh well. And I need someone to tell me the 8500 is better than the RX65 (it helps my ego) :P

Anyways I notcied you were from el paso... my g/f is from the EP, good times.

The 8500 is better than the RX65. There, happy?

The X50 eats the RX65 on K band at least. Ka band is possibly a different story.

You may have to return it. If you get your unit and it does not have the original serial number you cannot get it serviced. Radar Roy used to have a picture of the differences between the real serial number sticker an the fake ones, i'll see if i can find it.

I only visited El, Paso From KY.

oh snap I had no idea people where putting fake serial numbers. that's shadddddddy. I'd doubt that something as big as overstock would do that though....

Yeah, I remember that photo. It was accompanied by an explanation that they were refurbished in Mexico of all places
