That's why you get you rear window tinted . I'm lucky to have a car where my back seats fold forward easily so you can access the trunk. If I were driving in a state where RD's are illegal, then I could just toss it in the trunk .

    Tint your windows
Build a custom box and make it look like something else

If they see it, and you move it they will search your vehicle 100%. They do this for a living and know all the tricks we do.
At least in the US, I still have the right to refuse the search, unless the cop wants to go through the trouble of obtaining a warrant. Unless they feel they can get you for narcotics, they probably won't bother for a $100 ticket.

There are some exceptions for items in plain sight, or if they're doing an "inventory" after they've arrested you. If they want to start digging around consoles, glove boxes, under seats, look under items, etc., then they MUST obtain a warrant if you say no to a search. I have had cops on a couple of occasions (been quite a while since I've been pulled over...knock on wood) say that because of such-and-such (ie., I had my handgun laying on the passenger's side seat) that I MUST consent to a search. Not knowing any better at the time, I allowed it (I knew there was nothing in my car), but I later found out the cop was just spewing BS hoping he'd get lucky and find some drugs or other contraband in the car.

Chances are pretty slim that a cop will go to the trouble of obtaining a warrant just to search for a RD though, unless you've done something else to piss them off.

If you're smokin weed you don't need a radar detector because you will be going slowwwwwwww when high. Driving the speed limit exactly when you are high is fun, it's feels like your going fast when you are not. Not from experience or anything, just what I heard.
I've done this... I mean, heard this too...

In the area storm lives, the law provides the officer with the right to search the car for an RD if he suspects one is being used. Eg alert on Spectre, or heavy braking when he flips on radar, or if he sees it as the car passes by.

This is not my idea, someone posted it on this forum before, but it is a good one if you live in an RD banned area where they are allowed to seize the RD:

Get a really cheap RD, like a Cobra or RMR off of ebay. Keep it under your seat until it's needed. If you get pulled over, hide your quality RD in a hard to find place, like the ones suggested above, and the POS in an obvious place. When the LEO finds the POS, turn it over. Instead of losing your $300+ quality RD, you're just out $20 or $30, if that!

Don't forget there are significant penalties also, they take the RD but give you a bill for the priviledge of destroying it... $175 and 3 demerits in Ontario, $611 in Quebec...

They absolutely cannot do this, except for the immediately grabbable area around the driver. They cannot search the trunk or any locked containers at all without a warrant. If you consent, they can do whatever they want and you'll have no way to challenge the search in court if they find something. If you don't consent, they will need an articulable reasonable suspicion to do so. Your best course is to politely refuse and ask if you are free to go. That starts the clock ticking and they cannot detain you indefinitely. Since I have a concealed carry permit that's valid in about 40 states, they cannot claim they're looking for weapons, as it would not be a crime to find any. Though some states require you to tell the LEO you are armed. I've gotten two tickets recently while carrying and I didn't say anything about the gun.

If you really want to stop them, keep a lockable container in your front seat and toss your RD in it if stopped.

This is kind of off topic, but I could not resist. Driving home from my girlfriends house and the RD goes full blast Ka. I was driving the speed limit so I did not care.

Saw the Leo in the centre and at the traffic light I passed the kia and went in front of the leo and hit 10Km above the PSL. Leo comes right on my arese to run my plates. My car has some mods so they think I'm a street racer.

Next set of lights I could not resist but to drop shift to 3rd gear (no break light) and the dumb kunt driving (female driver and male in passanger) swurves out of the way and almost smashes into a transport in the left lane.

We come to stop and they both give me this luck. I just smile and say to myself, don't tail gate next time b1tch.

I know it's dangerous and irresponsible but I really hate LEOs. It's the summer so they are in full ticket mode for anything. Probably did not ticket me because I'll just take it to court and win like every other one.

I wonder if they can see that on the computer??
