I am willing to pay aroung 300 dollars for a radar detector, I was talking to my friend and he had told me that the cops around us use mosty ka band here and some k band . I live in the suburbs of chicago IL, so I do alot of suburbs driving and some highways driving as well. I wanted to ask you guys, since ka band is used in my area what is the best detector out there that is good on ka band, and some k band.

For 300 the best you can get is an X50 and they are pretty good for suburb driving. Sometimes they are a little behind in Ka detection but not enough to worry.

Welcome to the thread fordmustang. You were in the same situation I was in just over a month ago. I was looking for a solid performer detector and wanted to do some research. I spent about a month reading many post on this thread and reviewing some reliable RD test like GOL and finally purchased the STi.

I like to suggest to people to try and understand your driving habits and conditions. It looks like you have already understood this to some degree with knowing which band is most important to you and driving location. Your off to a good start and keep on reading the post on this site. You will find one that comes to the top!!

well if you say that the x50 falls behind in ka band a little then i could raise the prise up a little. Besides the x50 which of these have the best ka V1, sti, rx65

Heh I'll take the Pespi challenge on this one......

Based on the GOL tests overall (IMO) it would be the V1 followed closely by the STi and finally the X50/RX65.

It really depends. Check out http://guysoflidar.com/march-2007/ra...ctor-test.html, there is a big difference in certain frequencies. Another thing that must be taken into account is your driving style, if you drive in the city a lot the Sti or V1 are going to give a lot more falses than an X50. Cost is another factor: X50 runs around $300 while Sti is $450 and V1 is $400.

RX65 will probably be your perfect balance. It has great filtering over the V1 and is stellar on Ka band. You will compromise a little k band but nothing to worry about. It is give and take, but I think that the RX65 is your best shot for your driving conditions

In the Chicagoland area you are going to be dealing with K, Ka (35.5Ghz, 34.7Ghz) and laser.

And I wouldn't say the STi gives more false alerts than the X50 or RX65.

My STi is exceptional in the Autoscan mode.
