Moving Radar?

How much do they use it in your town??

Also in your experience do LEO's have CO or IO when using moving radar?


I have gone by about 7-8 LEO's in my town driving in the city and not once have I gotten an alert.

I guess they just aren't running radar as much as I think do.

Actually, it's practically all I see around here. Very rarely do I see a parked cruiser "gunning" people. I'd say it's about 75-80% CO with the occasional IO.

My experiences are similar to ELVATO's. LEO's use CO moving Ka 95% of the time, and a bit of IO tactics, but almost always moving.

I think it depends upon what they are actually doing. I personaly believe they often leave their RADARs in CO when they are just driving around and not actively working traffic to slow people down. If they are actively working traffic, I have noticed where I drive here in the Houston/Galveston area, if they are sitting on the opposite side of a bridge, they often leave their RADARs in CO. I think they do that on the fact that RADAR is line of site and very hard to detect over hills, especially Ka band.

But I bet they are the same guys who I/O because they have an understanding of RD's

I really wish that SWS took off. I find that technology facinating. Couple years ago, I was looking into that system for our firetrucks here in Spring. The original company (I think they are gone now) had a program where they would give some free units and you would have to evaluate them for a period of time, I think it was for a year.

I have been SAVED from an accident one snowy winter by my RD, because the cops who responded to a stuck car coned radar behind them. Without my RD's alert, I would've lost a few seconds of reaction time for sure.

i dunno. i've heard some cops want to keep them off as often as they can. no sense in being around or close to an active unit for no reason.

in minnesota, rolling radar is used all the time. i'm surprised you haven't encountered it. otoh, in kansas it is rarely used by the city and mostly used by the state. for nearly 10 years now, i have only been hit will rolling radar by a non-state leo about half-dozen times and have never rec'd a rolling radar ticket period (in this state). once i was plainly clocked by rolling radar from a city cop (i'm sure he couldn't help it) and he even had ample opportunity to catch me, but he didn't. honestly, i don't think it is valid here or something.
