question - hiding the detector from police?

what do you guys do when you get pulled over (and those who don't have a hidden display) and the officer pulls you over for a non-speeding violation, hes obviously walking to your car to talk to you but before he gets to your car, do you..

A. Hide the detector quick
B. Leave the detector hanging up on the windsheild//whatever you have it mounted too
C. Hope he dosent see it.

haha screwy wording but you get what i mean. i was just curious because i was pulled over once when i had my Escort Solo S2 up and i quickly grabbed it off the windsheild but in doing so made the officer pretty suspicious as soon as he got there.

i would have guessed if he wouldve saw it i wouldve ended up getting a ticket rather than a warning. :?:

Once Im hardwired, the detector is mounted level with the top of the RVM shooting under the tint band, to the left of the mirror.

I will be able to move my Visor down a bit, and it will block the unit.

You should never make sudden moves as the officer will be put into high alert if you are moving around suddenly while he is walking up. I will also turn off my car, killing the detector from making noise as well.

both b&c, no use in trying to quickly hide something, it makes things look suspicious like you said. and i could honestly care less if an officer saw my detector.

good point, in this case i was pondering for a good 10 seconds before i made up my mind to take it down, unfourtnely he was already walking toward the car

and xrs count me in. ill be down.

been pulled over a dozen times and i've never touched my detector. didn't make a difference, still got a lot of warnings. only got a few comments, those things don't work or i know how to defeat those. once, he asked me to take it down to run the serial number, i hesitated and asked him if i was gonna get it back, he said no problem.

once i just hit the mute button only, all red led were lit, plain view to officer, he said nothing, still got a warning.

If I were stopped, I'd leave it up, but either mute or turn it off if the officer left his radar on. That way it isn't beeping and annoying the hell out of the officer while he's conducting his business.

I have a V1 hidden in a visor pouch so hiding it isn't an issue. Getting to the kill switch might be, but my thoughts are, if you're going to take the RD down during a stop, do it before pulling over, preferably before the LEO is directly behind you. To do this, you would have to be aware that you're about to be pulled, and you might yank the detector when you see a cruiser pull out into traffic, but better safe than sorry I say.

Trying to yank it down once you're pulled over or the LEO has his spotlight on you, will likely arouse suspicion. They don't know if you're reaching for an RD or a gun.

When it comes to cops, leave it up (You won't get any fines specificially for the detector or have it taken in most of the US *exception: Washington DC, US Military Bases, State of Virginia*).

If you're in Virginia, if you can find a way to hide it, do so, they will take it.

But if it requires you to move erratically, or do something that would arouse suspicion, leave it up... its better than having the cop approach your car with a gun or tearing your car to pieces thinking you're hiding something.
