any time an officer is setting perpendicular in the median they are more than likely running laser. something the belscorts are hit or miss on.

in VA they usually run forward facing off to the side which is really hard to pick up.

there's always the chance you got hit with instant-on which is deadly.

if anything get your cash back and try a V1

Welcome, you will soon find from this sight that all other RD choices are wrong unless you buy a V1.

It’s inevitable, you will be beaten into submission.

In VA put it away everyone does 85 anyway. It’s a horrible state.

If you're in VA or commute regularly through VA/DC or another detector-banned area and are concerned about radar detector-detector use and subsequent citations, please do consider the Bel STi-Driver.

Even the V1 wouldn't be a "good" choice, in that respect.

Overall, the V1 does have an advantage, in terms of sensitivity, over the various Escort products. The added tactical advantage of the directional arrows, combined with this excellent sensitivity as well as the rear antenna, tends to make the V1 the favorite among the "open highway" crowd, especially if RDD/detector-bans are not a consideration.

Even with another detector, though, please know that these devices are RADAR/LIDAR detectors, not "cop detectors."

Just because you passed enforcers doesn't mean that they're actively running RADAR/LIDAR, even when they're seemingly positioned/primed to do so.

VASCAR is always a possibility, as well as associated airborne enforcement.

Additionally, it could simply be that the enforcer, choosing to utilize either I/O or LIDAR, did not consider your road-speed, via his/her visual estimate, to meet his/her individual criteria for a speeding citation.

In short, if you're not happy with your unit, return it - however, without additional quantitative or even qualitative testing (i.e. versus known YSI drones, known non-LEO sources, or even renting testing equipment from others - or simple empiric testing versus a known and ACTIVE speed-trap in your area), there's no way to truly say that the detector itself was at-fault.

Instead of purchasing such items locally, I would recommend that you purchase your new detector direct-from-the-manufacturer. Yes, there's usually a premium involved, however, you can utilize their "test drive days" to your benefit, and find the detector which you think will provide you with the proper performance/protection.

In addition to the other good advice to give you perspective on your x50's performance, I urge you to always, always, always use a radar-absorbing, cop-distracting, road-ahead clearing rabit. Pick someone going the speed you want to, or can tolerate travelling, and give 'm a good lead, set your cruise control, and travel in relatively greater comfort.

Without a silly rabit for a driving companion, I'm driving in a heightened state of anxiety.

You are just pissed that we bash the Escort 9500i cause it doesn't work as advertised and is blind to off axis radar. Sorry I was at the first testing event of this detector and I was quite disappionted I kinda demanded that on the test vehicle we don't use the escort 9500i. Also it's the same detector as the 8500 x50 which is $150 cheaper and is pretty decent around town

    Spoiler: show

Just because you didn’t read what the Escort sight said it doesn’t mean there product doesn’t work as advertised. I totally agree the 9500I is no where near the V1 but that doesn’t mean it’s not fine for me and others.

I would never tell someone to use something, I might throw out recommendations but everyone has there own choice & opinion.

As per the 9500i. When we tested it in march the true lock did not work as advertised. I know the background behind the software & why they did things the way they did. When we tested in march the software was designed to block the entire K freq. Low & behold we did not find this out until many months after the testing was completed.

Since then they have updated the software to half a$$ fix the ramp up, and we are hearing that the true lock is working a little better.

What Rob, Myself and many others are saying is that it did not work for us. I've owned 2 of them, and from my real world encounters it has performed terrible. Alerting as I go parallel to 2 officers cars, and giving me a heart attack on many alerts, where I had to constantly look behind me to make sure I was not getting a ticket.

But that's just us. If it works for you that's great. Enjoy it and life goes on.

I am not talking about the performance!!! Every detector company says they have the best performaing detector so I know only to believe the test results...

The TrueLock feature doesn't work as advertised on the 9500i!!!!!!! That is my problem with the detector. A person believing Escort on their trueLock feature like 'thestaton' did with the 9500i he purchased and locked out half of the false singlas in Delaware to find out he didn't onlylock out the false signals but the whole radar band in that area. That is totally not safe.

Here are some videos showing the escort not working as advertised
Escort 9500i TrueLock Problems (Lab test)
Escort 9500i Locking Out Real World test

Sorry but Escort 9500i TrueLock feature doesn't work!!!! Sothe response would be just run Highway mode. But then you have the same detection ability as the 8500 X50! So why waste $150 for a feature that doesn't work as it should and leaves you open for a ticket? The Escort 8500 X50 is far superior to the 9500i believe it or not.

thanks Rob I was hunting for that GoL video.

if you have to know I was the one operating the Decatur K band gun. RacerX was wanting to quit after the instant on test, but I convinced him to do a constant on run. however him and happya$$ where laughing at me, and told me to give it up, it didn't work.

If anyone put there neck out on the line & wanted to love the 9500i it was me. But it bite me one to many times.

We knew you just enjoyed shooting the radar gun

Yeah you were very happy with your 9500i until you guys made that video. I remember each time we got to see the results you were always saying that it was still in the top 3 performance wise.
