    Default Hardwire/Add A Fuse Question

Hi all, I have a vector 955 detector which I need to hardwire. I was on radarbusters and was going to purchase the beltronics hardwiresmartcord AND the add a fuse. I watched the install video on youtube and this would be my best option since I do not want to deal with splicing any wires in my car.

Is this all I need to buy to get this thing hardwired? I am confused because I thought the smartcord already comes with a fuse, but I want to put it into the add a fuse then put that somewhere in my fuse box (probably the cigarette lighter). Are those two products compatiable with each other? Do I need to splice the smartcord? Because I was looking at the video and I see that the negative needs to be attached to a bolt and the positive goes into the add a fuse. Am I right? Thanks!!

to get it tow work with the bel smartwire, you will need to cut off the connector that bel supplies, and splice that end into the add-a-fuse.

You will crimp the spiced end into the add-a-fuse, then you will be set once you hook up the negative. It will be double fused, because you get a fuse through add-a-fuse, and then there is an in line fuse on the smart cord.

At least this is how I remember it when I did it. the only problem i had was i got hte regular size add-a-fuse when I needed the mini. Other than that you'll just need a pair of needle nose pliers to do the crimping.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure that dual fuse wouldn't cause any problems. I figured I had to cut the end of the hardwire smartcord.

Just a question on the amps. From radarbusters:
Allows you to get professional installation of any 12 volt accessory up to 10 amps without cutting or splicing into the current wiring!

Thats for the add a fuse. If my radio fuse says "30" (amps), then I should not use that correct? It says not to go any higher then 10 amps. I have to go look at my car manual again to find a spot to plug it into, I am hoping the cigarette lighter fuse will be ok. I don't want to fry my detector. btw, the car is a 06 corolla if anyone has any experience with it. Thanks again!

Typically, many car radio fuses go to up to about 10 amps. The add fuse will support 10 amps. Say for instance your radio is 15 amps, then you will have to use another fuse because the 10 amps is max. The smartcord has an inline fuse, basically you will have 2 10 amp fuses piggybacked on the add a fuse then plugged into the fuse box.
