Default RX-65 leaked and V1 picked it up

I was messing around with my friends RX-65 (V 6.2, M4 antenna) and I turned my V1 (K and KA on, POP off) on, and surprising to me, the RX 65 leaked K from about 4 feet away. When the RX-65 was right next to the V1, the V1 was at full strength. I thought only the lower end detectors leaked enough to be picked up by other detectors? Why did it leak on K band and not on KA? A J alert is for KA only, correct?

My x50 leaked both k and ka, which I found when I ran it next to an STi. Sometimes it would leak bad enough that it would pick ITSELF up.

i wonder if that is possible.

the other day i was driving at 6am out in the middle of no where out in the country and there is no cars in sight and i can see a good number of miles down the road ahead and behind. my rd went off with ka band detection like a false only for 1 second. it does this every once in a while. there are no cops in that area, no cars in that area, no nothing in that area. wtf?

    Hi Bunny,

Lennyo3034 mentions that he had his X50 right next to his STi. As Jimbonzzz points out, the STi does not have zero emissions -- just really weak emissions. He mentioned that he can accurately measure the STi's LO frequencies in the lab without opening up the STi. If the STi is right next to another radar detector, then the STi definitely can set off another radar detector.

I recall that satellite dish systems use Ka receivers which, of course, feature local oscillators. A lot of ham radio enthusiasts also experiment by building their own microwave communications systems. Ka band may be getting popular for this since there are many Internet sources for Ka band components.

From my personal experience, it appears like it could happen. There's been times where my Whistler 1793SE's gotten stuck in an infinite full-strength Ka band alert after it exits a menu item. Whistlers typically leak Ka when a menu item is activated. I had to reboot the detector to get it to quiet down again.

I can believe that, just as the V1 randomly alerts with Ka guard off, I too think a detector could false on its self.

The V1 probably alerts because it's finding Ka leakage from 3 miles away.
