Well I gotta admire your honesty. I am just amazed at the detailed description and reasoning for your speeding. Just be careful in all the "important" areas like school zones, residential areas, and watch out for people crossing at crosswalks, and that's about it man.... I honestly dont go that fast unless I feel "THE NEED FOR SPEED!!!!!" 8) 8) which I think all guys get from time to time. Most of the time this happens I just fly on the empty highways of west Texas and I know good and well I am overdriving my detector. Nothing can save me in these instances. I wish there was a device that did, but I know driving that fast, no detector can save you. Testosterone takes over from time to time in us guys... thats why our insurance rates are higher, I have no problem admitting this. I also have been luckly thus far in not having been in an accident. Although I am only 22 and have been driving since 14 (Old Arkansas law that is gone now) I had a fender bender when I first started driving however when I was about 15... lets not count that though
You should try to drive in such a manner that you don't need to use brakes on the interstate.Originally Posted by 9500ier
Its actually really easy to slow down by letting off the gas ahead of time. (I don't know about automatics that go to overdrive, but in manuals it works wonders)
Plus less brake lights = less traffic jams. A lot of the time its stupidity that causes the interstate to clog up.
Back on topic: I have a radar detector because I speed, not the other way around. Also, if I didn't speed then I would hate to have that beeping gadget on my windshieldCops in GA seem very lenient wen it comes to interstate speeding. Usually you can get away with 14-15mph
Who's your insurance with? I want to check them out!Originally Posted by 100Daily
As for me, I also use a detector BECAUSE I speed, not the other way around.
I tell anyone who makes the generalization that "speed kills" to stay off airplanes. Stupidity kills, which SOMETIMES includes the improper application of speed, but more often something else. I take driving very seriously, something I wish my wife would do, too. To paraphrase Ralph Nader, she's too often "unsafe at any speed" and, BTW, doesn't use an RD.
If speed limits were set by 80th percentile, instead of politically or as a way to generate income, most folks would treat them as proper laws to be followed, instead of things to be bent or broken, and have less of a view of Traffic LEO's as "highway robbers." The 55MPH national speed limit created a massive loss of respect for the law in the 70's & 80's that I suspect bled over into other areas of law enforcement.
Sorry for the rant. Hope I didn't veer too far off topic.
Liberty Mutual. they run your record when you sign up. After that you are good to go unless you are involved in an accident that is your fault! I didn't know that until after I signed up. A little devil appeared over my shoulder, and my foot became suddenly heavier.Originally Posted by WDG

Also, the distances that the majority of people leave themselves from the car infront when traveling at interstate speeds is far too close, should something happen to the cars directly ahead of you. If I see cars ahead slowing, I assume the people in front of me are as bad of drivers as they probably in actuality are and I fall back to avoid a very very quick pile up. If there are three cars traveling a car distance a piece from each other at 70mph and a tire blows or some idiot does a brake check b/c he decides he wants to change lanes (super annoying by the way) then there will probably be a pile up unless everyone is on their A game. Plus, most people leave about 6 feet b/w them and the car infront when there is congestion going 70+ mph. I also find myself riding a little closer than I would really prefer, b/c the state of American driving, i.e those who drive the same speed as the people beside them while going down the interstate in the left lane.
