Decision: V1, Escort 8500, or BEL RX65?
I drive mostly city but lately have been taking trips out of the city to Orlando and Tampa. Looking to invest in one of the 3 detectors mentioned above. I know everyone is going to have their personal opinion, but which one has the best combination of detecting X, K, Ka, and POP? I would also like one that can detect the new Ku bands out there.
I'd go with the 9500i but you better hurry prices are about to go up on Feb 1st. X Band is not used in Florida, and if you are in the city you'll appreciate it's quietness.
Why are prices going to go up? I also updated my thread. The 9500i is out of my price range. $400 is the MOST I can spend.
If $400 is max get the V1.
Disable X band, and don't worry about Ku band it's not used in the States.
So up to $400. The V1 is still the best. I read on some other sites that it lags in Ka detection in comparison to some other cheaper RD's.
i have pro rx65 i like it had it a year now and some months. no tickets soo far and i always bout 15-20 over. but i gonna get a v1 cause of the arrows. i find more and more that it would be nice to know where the signal is coming from.
V1 hands down....
You take I-95 to get up here, or the the Turnpike? The 5 hour drive must be fun.
Just some points I want to throw out there.
-It seems some of the FHP (newer cars) have gotten 35.5 Ka units, which do seem to be a little harder to detect than the traditional 34.7 Stalker Ka units.
-As some others have said here, X is not used in Florida, so you can disable that.
-The one time I did drive from Orlando to Miami, I did find it nice to have the Spec mode (found on X50 and RX-65) on because of all the Cobra detector users on the road. Then again, I didn't get much of either Cobra falses, nor real hits on the trip.
-The arrows on the V1 might be helpful in those "rear-attack" where a LEO sneaks up behind you with radar.
-Forums member JDS lives in Miami, with a V1. Maybe he could chime in on the noise-level of the V1 in Miami city.
-For the interstate trips, you might find a CB radio to be even more helpful than a radar detector.
-Watch out for air VASCAR from FHP. I think I've heard them using it out somewhere near Tampa.
get a v1 and be done with it :wink: you know youll eventually get one anyways and crave it till you do
