question about moving radar...

hey i had a quick question for you guys. my radar started going off for a Ka and then i saw a leo with someone pulled over... question is... the radars that they have mounted inside their car, do they only use K, or a Ka band? or will you find the there are K and Ka mounted detectors? i was trying to figure out if it was his mounted detector i picked up or he had the detector laying in his seat

Jimbonzzz would be the authority on this, but I do recall reading on one of the radar gun manufacturer web sites that they can offer different radar bands for the front and rear transceivers. For example, Ka band for the front transceiver and K band for the rear transceiver. I guess this would allow both radar guns to be operational at the same time without interfering with each other. I could be totally wrong, so hopefully The Professor will chime in with the correct answer.

- There are X, K, and Ka handhelds

- There are X, K, and Ka mounted units

- There are mounted units that will take both a K or Ka antenna, in some areas it is common for officers run a Ka antenna for the front and a K antenna for the rear.
