Default ok i want spec mode but...

Ok i have a V1 but I want to see what radar the leos are using and such. Im not going to down grade to get it. And not wanting to spend a lot. Is it bad to run 2 Rd's? I heard it was not good to run 2 why is this? does it decrease the range?

I saw someone that had V1 in spec mode in there signature but he has the SR7 right? and i guess thats what im wanting lol. how much does the SR7 cost?

What is the cheapest RD that has spec mode?

    Any input is welcome!

The cheapest RDs that have spec mode are the 8500 X50 and Bel V995. Running two RDs together has shown to interfere with each other and cause no alert at all sometimes. The SR7 is expensive if you fet it straight from Escort. Here is a video of a very good RD(STi) not alerting at all while running right next to an X50:
    STi - X50 vs 33.8

Just to avoid confusion. The STi did not detect the radar signal not because the X50 was near by. It was because the STi had a bug when it encounter's a 33.8 radar gun.

From the Guys of Lidar website:

It's not "the cheapest detector" that's the issue here - it's whether you'll be willing to put up with the "unknown" potential for performance degradation, as well as, if you do decide to run just one SpecMode enabled detector for a while, if you'll be able to live with its differences, versus your V1, in a "tactical" manner of speaking.

Pretty much the ONLY way to get, for-sure, "proper" Spec + V1 setup would be to run a remote-mounted detector, such as the SR7 or Bel STi-R (the 9500ci would be here, too, but it's not out, yet).

The only RD which you can successfully run alongside the V1 is the Bel STi. The big key is to make sure that both are mounted on either side of your RVM so that the the output from both RD's horns can't reflect off of anything such as your windshield wiper blades or off of the any sharp edges along where other body panels meet the edges of your car's hood. Note that this assumes that your car's windshield is slightly curved and that you allow the left-of-RVM detector to point a degree or two to the left and that you allow the right-of-RVM detector to point a degree or two to the right. This prevents the RDs from "seeing" the inside edges of the horns where diffraction and the weird properties of radar at the edge of a metallic surface causes scatter. Alternatively you can mount the STi high either above or to either side of your RVM and then mount your V1 low to improve the V1's front laser performance.

Absolutely all other RDs aside from the STi will interfere with the V1, resulting in particular with either erratic or reduced Ka range and possibly no alert at all for certain Ka frequencies.

So, in a nutshell, currently there is no cheap RD which you can use in conjunction with the V1 to allow you to see the frequency of the radar without causing moderate to severe interference problems.

^ That's something that I wanted to point out, but wasn't completely willing to.

But now that the hat's out of the bag, so-to-speak.....

    Question:

Such a combo should not cause any grief to the V1 - but as a fellow brother pointed out, what's the V1 doing to the STi ?

The SR7 is an externally remote mounted radar detector, its still not ideal running at the same time but the farther the way the better. Sure the STi will be stealth that the V1 will not/should not get interference BUT the STi will be getting interferrence from the V1.

Tech mode is more for Ka band, K band as you know is going to be 24.1xx (24.150), now what you really want to know is what kind of Ka equipment they are running, either 33.8, 34.7 (most popular), and 35.5. And if you get a Ka hit, just flip on your other RD already in Tech mode and you will see the specific Ka band. And then you dont need to worry about interference running two at the same time.

I think spec mode is also very useful in X or K band also. If you go by a store and every day it is right around 24.099 GHz and today it's 24.153 GHz and sounds a little different than usual, there is a good chance there is a LEO around. I had this exact experience.

X2, i dont have that luxury on my detector, but all information is to your advantage.

I'm one of the people running this. I have my V1 mounted at the very top of my windshield, and the SR7 in front of huge metal engine. I have seen no interference in this combo, and still have the same range from what I can perceive.

If you want pictures of the set up just click the picture in my sig, it will take you to the thread.

I know it's not exactly what you're saying, but for about a week before I could properly install the SR7, I ran the SR7 velcro'd to my dash in the center, and my V1 up top centered. I would get X band falses when ever I was within 10ft of any solid object.

I'm planning to buy a STIr head for my SR7 in the far future (after LPP), but no one commented yet as to weather it's plug and play . I'll guess I'll harass Bel and Escort later this week.
