Thread: Which Detector?

  1. #1

    Default Which Detector?

I have been doing alot of reading to try and figure out what detector to get. From what I have read, these three seem to have high reviews for their price.

    Whistler XTR-690 and Pro-78, and Cobra XRS-9950.

What are your guys opinions on these units?

My areas of driving are a little unique so I will tell you about them in case it makes a different. Most of my driving is on twisty turny roads that are heavily wooded on either side, which of course I know will limit the detection range.

    Thanks for the help guys!

The first two are very good for the price and are equal in performance to each other, the third one blows! It comes down to features. Make sure whichever Whistler you choose is Rev C. You might also consider the Bel V955, which is in the same price range and performance range to those Whistlers. Any of these 3 will serve you well.

I've never really had any good luck on secondary highways. When they are waiting for you, sure you get warning, but when they are coming straight at you the other way, especially behind a truck or other car, it's basically "beep! darn!"

Like DJ said, don't waste your time even considering a Cobra product. They look attractive to the uninformed because of the s#itload of "features". But all they are doing is compensating for poor detection range.

The Whistlers and Beltronics V940 and V955 are WAY better, and have the features you actually need.

That GOL test, while it is great, it is approaching a YEAR old... So keep that in mind. I'm pretty sure the Bels were on the S7 platform at the time (now on the M4), and as stated earlier, the Whistler was on the Rev B (now Rev C).

You can go to their forums to see comparisons of platforms, i.e. S7 vs. M4. Here you go:

so then why do you want a radar detector. if they dont set traps or wait for you your not going to knwo where they are anyways since they wont have radar anyways
