Default Looking for my First Good Radar Detector!

I have been reading for quite a while now on all the different radar detectors. I see there is bias in reviews just like most reviews.

I live in rural southern Michigan between Chicago and Detroit. Right on the Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan borders. I am basically looking for the best bang for the buck. I was kind of leaning torwards the Bel 995. Although the New Valentine's and the Escort 9500i look pretty good and would last a long time. I don't have an unlimited budget. I just need to be smart about it.

Any and All Advice Greatly Appreciated!

    THANKS!
    Roger

It would help us better if we knew just exactly how much you're willing to spend on one.

I drive that area on a regular basis. Ive run the v940 and v995. You'd be well served by either.

On the higher $ end, the V1 has been incredible on the highway for me. I can definitely recommend one. If your in the city more often then not, go 9500i.

I would say the best cost to benefit ratio would be the 8500X50. its $$$ & detection is smack dab in the middle of the best, and the best $$$ value.

Depends on what you want. If you love the more technical gadgets with bells and whistles, a Passport 9500 or BEL STI are for you. If you want a straight shooter with great laser, Valentine 1. Either way, since you traverse through Ohio, may I also recommend the Passport ZR4 Laser shifter be added to your list to buy.

Mostly rural city driving, rural 2 lane roads, and on the highway. Bells and whistlles I don't need. Just something that is reliable.

How do the Bel 995 and Passport X50 compare?

    Keep them coming and Thanks!

Both would be excellent choices and very comparable, there are minor difference's between units. If you can go the small extra $$, X50 may get you some better detection range. If you want the best bang for buck go 955.

any of those units can save you from a ticket. (955,995 $ X50)

I have already read through www.guysoflidar.com. Great site. I have read many other sites plus this one.

The www.guysoflidar.com shows the Bel 995 with slightly more range.

Is it worth the extra to move up to the RX65?

    THANKS!
