    Default Passport SRX vs V1

    Hello all,
New to the forum and relatively new to radar detectors. In December I had a Passport SRX installed in my '05 M3 convertible and I have been reasonably happy with the results (no tickets!). I have however come to read that my discrete SRX is a little past its day in terms of performance. I have read that the V1 performs much better in Highway situations (which is where I am driving 80%) and since I am really eager to have the best protection money can buy I have ordered one. I am going to compare the two over the next 30 days and I will post my findings here.

    1) Has anyone had experience with these two in comparison?

    2) The cops in Long Island use mostly Ka band on the Long Island Expressway, is either the SRX or the V1 known to be better with the Ka band?

    3) I have heard of a variety of interesting V1 setups from w/in the rear view mirror, custom built into the visor, custom built into the head rest, to custom built on the rear deck. Which of these is the most cost effective?

    4) Also, I have found online a remote mute <EBAY LINK REMOVED>
Has anyone any experience with this mute button? I am trying to cook up something interesting for my setup should the V1 prove better in Radar detection.
    Thanks 8)

I'm pretty sure erickonphoenix and REBinc have SR7 (SRX w/out laser jamming) and V1s running simultaneously. Search through some of their posts as they can tell best through experience what works better.

    And welcome to the forum.

They are both good, I just have the SR7, but the radar head is the same, I believe the SR7/SRX radar head is based off of a X50 horn, so the performance is close to that. The V1 alerts a little before, but they filter a little bit different. I occasionally will get falses on only one of them, but have yet to have only one of them when it was a real threat.

I've been running both since the beginning of January.

The more I read the more it seems like SR7/SRX + V1 seem to be the ideal combo. Arrows and frequency numbers - I assume that is the expert mode. So where can I read more about how the numbers (ie 33.8 = crown vic) translate into the specific cop car? Also, I did not do the install and I think that my radar detector for the SRX is located low in front bumper (my car is dropped on coilovers), would it be better to relocate it higher up? I could prob. do something custom in my visor if I would get better sensitivity higher up.

33.8 GHz is MPH industries KA radar

34.7 GHz is Stalker KA radar

35.5 GHz is Kustom and Decatur KA radar

Yes a high line of sight is always better in radar detection. If you look at Erickonphoenix videos he has the SR7 and V1 setup.

to bad you didn't post here in december, the escort 9500ci just got released, basically the new srx/sr7

ofcourse it chimes in at a whopping 1600$ without install, but it includes laser jammers, which are looking to be very good, along with whats touted to be better range than the v1, not detectable by any RDD, along with gps filtering, automatic filtering, and EXACT frequency reporting, meaning it will filter the exact frequency, not a chunk

while the last part i am skeptical, the other is looking to be trueish

I have run my V1 and my SRX together. My V1 beats my SRX every time by a considerable margin, although both are usually in plenty of time to slow down. The V1 SRX combo is pretty solid and gives the driver all the info he would need.

The question really is if the jammers are good enough and the fact that you have to worry about theft of the V1. That's why I purchased the 9500CI, V1 range, better jammers than my SRX, quieter RD and I don't have to worry about removing my RD from the windshield every time I go into the grocery store.

If you mount the SRX radar antenna up by your rear view mirror the performance of the the SRX will be drastically improved. I would keep the SRX for it's jamming capabilities at least

Depending on how much you want to speed the StiR might be another option for you, if you want jammers then the 9500ci.
