I like it for rental cars. You can snake the RJ-11 around the curvature of the car and up the side panel, then mount your detector on the left edge of the visor making for a quick stealthy install.

For day to day driving I don't like them or find them practical. If you want to use your sun visor you could be out of luck. Most visors are not thick enough, so your detector will bounce. Plus I don't like it being so close to my head. If I get in a wreck I don't want my head slamming into the detector.

It will depend on the type of tint in question. If it's metallic based, then it is effecting performance. If it's just factory tint then you 'should' be good to go.

The easiest way to test... Go find a shopping center that has a known K band false. Put your detector behind the tint strip and monitor performance. Then lower behind the tint strip to see if it's any different.

Can I use the visor clip with my 9500i? It would it totally block gps signal?

it will work. you might have longer sat acquisition times on a cold boot though.

I visor clip my 9500i directly to the headliner, and it does effect sat acquisition time, but once it's locked on I haven't had noticeable problems with lost signal.

The problem I noticed was the speed display. If it's mounted up there it was sluggish and it would be off some times by 2 / 3 MPH. Compared to when it was mounted down in the middle of the windshield.

Good point. I think that's definitely true. I use my Navalert (mounted on the front dash) for my digital "HUD" speedometer and my 9500i as my voltmeter now. I wonder if this effects lock-out accuracy or performance in any noticeable way.
