Question Oops! No clue what happened..

I am driving in Orlando, the setup is 2 lane-median (no trees- open area)-2 lane. The speed limit is 45. I am driving 55-60 (right lane).

I tried to charge my car phone, and while I am looking for a charger, I hear suddenly Ka sound, I look in front of me and I see the State Highway Patrol car coming from the opposite lane and turning the lights on and making a turn over the median and getting behind me!

I was surprised. I had no time to react. No previous warning nothing! The moment I heard the Ka, I did not pushed the breaks but I did take my foot of the gas pedal as I saw him circling across the median.

Can anyone enlighten me, what happened.

Moving I/O instant on. He turned on his radar when he saw you.

He instant-on'ed you. Basically, he took his radar out of stand by, and got your speed.

BTW, where in Orlando was this?

Curry Ford Rd heading from Eastwood/ Waterford Lakes towards 417 in Orlando

So is there anything else that I could do differently?

Did you get pulled over? Did you get a ticket, how much over if you did get one?

Another thing what kind of detector do you have.

Ah yes, I've seen some troopers there late at night, parked close to where 417 is at. This was a while ago. Seems they are still doing that. I can see, though, how easy it is to speed on that road, especially late at night.

The only defense against this is to have cars ahead of you that will hopefully get his attention and get him to radar them, thus letting you detect him.

you took your eyes off the road to look for your charger eliminating your #1 countermeasure your eyes.

    This time I had 9500i with me but the distance was just so small;
I used both 9500i and V1 in the past and both were picking up just fine on that road but this time was just too close to comfort.

I ended up with ticket driving 58 in 45 mile zone

I have no clue what RD he had unless it is written somewhere on the ticket.

The whole experince was almost like "laser speed" encounter.

Moving I/O sucks. That's why you have to pay attention and have a rabbit.
