Unhappy Can the "K" band receiver "burn out"?

I bought a detector, new about 18 months ago, and many of the city and county cars have K band in them and it was going off all the time on that band, Ka for a few county cars and FHP. But with all the close proximity of the K band, it seems to have gone out! I even got a K band radar gun recently that sets off my friends detectors, but will not work on mine? It's like it got some front-end overload or just burned the diode ( or transistor) out or something, but I can still pick up laser and Ka bands, as well as the "emergency" radar used on certain fire engines etc... to warn you of an accident or similar ahead.
    Anyone ever have this problem?

    Thanks,
    Walter

Some detectors let you turn bands off individually, so check for that. Otherwise, it's generally "all or nothing", as the circuits that detect X, K, and Ka are all the same.

The other possibility is that the detector is simply out of tune. Ka band is wider so it's possible to lose X and/or K but keep Ka on an out-of-tune RD.

    What detector do you have?
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

He has a Cobra, which I think is out of tune and needs to be sent in for repairs.
