I have read that recently. Honestly, how can GPS data NOT be accurate? It is hell of a lot better than radar because radar could be picking up another car. I have had a few GPS devices that give the Speed and the most it has been off was +/- 2 MPH.
I even had it on a plane once, and it gave me a read out of 500+ MPH, however, THAT was probably inaccurate because the fast you are going the bigger the error. But if he was going less than 100 MPH, it should have a +/- 2 MPH

And there is only about a 1-2 second delay from being real time. So it is pretty accurate IMO.

Obviously these parents have tons of cash to burn, but is good to see they are taking their childs driving seriously unlike a lot of others.

Only concern with everyday GPS that I have is when I read in my owners manual for my Garmin that it is accurate within 3 metres (9ft) so radius wise it is now 6 metres (18ft) so it does have some accuracy issues as well. No where in the manual does it state how I can ensure my device can be "reset" or calibrated back to original standards it came with. Has been dropped a couple times, but still seems to work

I've had some crazy speeds recorded on my gps like max speeds of 320 kph...lol

pretty much every car in my family speedo is spot on with the GPS systems and with my laser and radar gun.

The only vehicle with a bad speedo is the pick-up due to the over sized offroad tires tested with radar gun and 3 gps systems

no i am not saying that, but I have compared 2 receivers to the Car Speedometer (they plug into computer) and they are not more than +/- 3-5 at most, but usually around +/- 1-2, but that is just my personal experience.

my speedo seems about 3 mph faster than my gps states. both my tomtom and my 9500i. interesting to know that a lotta times when i thought i was going 70 in a 60 i was probably just fine..

I don't think anyone can argue that GPS may be inaccurate, but it is only by a few mph. This kid was nabbed for going 17 over, while his GPS said he was doing the speed limit. No way the GPS was off by that much. Like a previous poster said, that radar gun will fail before the GPS does.

And good for the parents for tracking their kid in the first place (the GPS device was one that tracked the kid in his car, not some navigation unit). That kid probably knew it was there, was doing the speed limit, had the computer results to prove to his parents he was doing the right thing, and now the cop that got him is going to look really bad after these wealthy parents show the cop for what he is... a lying tax collector. No quota, my a$$. I wouldn't be surprised if they counter sued for profiling.

That was one of the potential ideas Escort had in there patent for the 9500I. I hope they stick it to the cop.
