Older detector, protection or not?

While I'm saving my $ to get a Valentine, I have a Passport circa 1998 I'm considering using. What degree of effective protection can I expect from this unit?

Which Passport model is it? If it's anything prior to the Passport 8500, then Ka performance is going to be pretty poor, while X and K-Band performance would be marginal. However, ANY protection is better than nothing...

K and X band should be fine on it, but I probably wouldn't trust it for Ka or Laser.
