Help me out
Hey guys/gals I have a couple questions for ya. I have never really been interested in getting a RD until here recently. I am confused on what what is going on with these things. I know everybody is going to jump behind the product that they have, but I would like some unbiased opinions on what I should get. I was looking over what some people use and it seems there are things that can be added to the RD? And why do people have 3 different kinds of RD in the same car? Sorry if I am coming off as a complete Newb to this but frankly I am and looking for into....oh and dont' mind Hater...he is grumpy on all forums....
Way to start **** Gerry!!!!!

Re: Help me out
You need to do some more searching to narrow it down from the many, many choices, we can’t decide for you. Once you do that tell us some things about how you drive, where you drive, what you like, what you don’t like, city driving, highway driving.
If you’re telling us you have no price limit get a 9500ci and an LI and your done. End of story.

Re: Help me out
The three that I tried out were the Bel V955, Whistler Pro 78 and Escort 8500 X50 Blue. I settled on the Escort. It's the most that I wanted to spend. I do mostly city driving and the Escort was by far the quietest as far as falses and seems to have excellent radar detection. Did a lot of web research as far as tests and opinions. This how I went about choosing one. Don't depend on one for laser protection.

Re: Help me out
It does depend largely on your budget/driving habits/and where you drive. Reading up on the different kinds of detectors and reviews will help you figure a lot out. Basically there is radar and laser that can be detected. All detectors (new ones) detect both, but typically when you get a laser alert, it's already too late and if you're speeding you will probably get pulled over. The problem is the laser beam is very narrow and hard to detect unless its hitting your car already. However, laser jammers work well against laser guns and there are different brands of those as well (check out guys of lidar tests to see some). As far as radar detectors go, some people might have more than one just to play with them, but running more than one can cause them to interfere with eachother so it's not recommended. As far as the add ons to radar detectors, I know some can be linked up with a laser jammer, but I'm not exactly sure which ones. Do some more reading for more in depth info on detectors...hope this helps get you started...

Re: Help me out
I've had a Bel 995, Bel STi, and now I have a V1.
Both the Bel's were more quiet in the city. The V1 is better on the highway. In the city, the V1 picks up radar a bit farther, but it is more chatty, and sometimes a bit overwhelming in the city.
It's really a personal choice. The Escort 9500i/ix sounds like it's more up your alley then a V1 is.
