    Default best place for mount

Hey I got a question that I need your guys opinions on. Im wondering where the best place to mount my rd is. And since I live in Mn it is illegal to have it suctioned on the windshield. I know that most cops probably dont care if I have it on my windshield, but I dont want to give them a bs reason to pull me over. I was thinking of velcroing it to the dash, but I dont know how good the rear detection will be then, and also it will make it harder to take off. Im not sure if would want to use one of those visor mounts either. Whats your guys thoughts?

How about mounting it above your rear view mirror?

The 8500 is a great RD. Mount it high and hard wire it. You could get the escort hard wire smart cord, or just save some money and do it yourself. I have the escort hardwire smart cord in the wifes car and it works great. BUT, the lights on it are very bright at night. I have a modified smart cord in my truck, pics in my link, and I love it.

If you search there have been some good post. Such as hiding it in headrest or using that soft clotch that covers car speakers to cover it up. Etc.

California has the same law that Minnesota has about placing anything on the windshield, but I have never heard of it being enforced. That being said, I totally understand the mindset of attempting to eliminate all reasons for them to pull you over. I've been pulled over for some super bogus reasons.

I say hardwire it and mount it as high as possible, while still able to keep it level and you should be fine.

I think I will look into hardwiring it up high. Thanks guys for your help. One more question, will mounting it behind the tint strip affect range at all?

No, as long as the tint is not metallic in nature.
