Ka band performance? Definitely yes. I hate blue LED displays, but in the case of the Pro78 I do actually like both the shade and brightness of its blue display. The XTR-695 of course has its multi-color LCD display. I have been considering this radar detector model for my father since he tends to get distracted and not pay attention to how fast he is driving. I figured that I would configure its display alert colors with red for K and Ka bands and laser, white for X band, and deep blue for non-alert conditions.
The Bel Vector 955 has better performance on all three radar bands. Obviously for your dad you would configure it by turning off X band. Yet K band false alerts around town might be more annoying for him compared to the Whistler models. Yet I have found that my Pro-78 performs extremely well against Ka band radar as long as the Ka band radar gun is ahead of you and pointed in your general direction. This is the scenario where the Whistler, using Mike B's patented signal sweep technology, allows it to sniff out extremely weak Ka band radar even though the Pro78/690/695 inherently have somewhat less raw Ka band sensitivity.
So...
-- If your dad's driving is mostly suburban driving then get him one of the three Whistler models which you are thinking about.
-- If your dad's driving is mostly open road driving away from false alerts then get him the Bel V955.
These are my recommendations for what they are worth.
