CI vs. STI-R

Okay, so a local shop I was talking to about getting some new product was telling me some information I want to clarify. They said first that Escort was owned and ran by Beltronics as a lower company and that their products were very very inferior when it comes to Beltronics. Also, he said that the STI-R detector is way better than the CI... this confused me. I was under the impression that the CI had out performed the STI-R in many tests as well as the CI has the GPS function in it which alone I believe would assist any driver. So! This post I am looking for clarification on these products and differences, I am not looking to start a battle between Escort and Beltronics... but if it occurs that could be helpful I guess. Thanks..

The BEL STi-r and Escort 9500ci and BEL STi all share the same radar antenna set-ups the difference lies in the features that differ.

You are confusing the STi-R with the regular dashmount STi

Salespeople often tell you anything they think you wish to hear... Unless he/she is:

a) a RD net enthusiast,
b) realizes that Bel and Escort are one in the same company,
c) has both units, and
d) has tested them in all sorts of situations objectively

I would take his/her opinion with a (large) grain a salt, i.e., don't believe the hype.

That's why this site exists...

And of course its Escort which owns Beltronics. Both are the same company now. Its one really great team of engineers who create their products, and its one really good group of customer service and sales reps who answer the phones and handle email an online chat questions.
