What a Night

Ok so here’s what happened. Today a friend of mine that I haven’t seen in a few month’s comes up from the states. As he pulls into my driveway I notice something in his windshield and to my surprise it a Cobra XRS 9950 :P. So I start to laugh he says what’s so funny. I proceed to tell him that his detector is one of the lower end detector brands. He says that it has saved him plenty of times and it was well worth the money. I tell him that my STI was well worth the money not a cobra so he says I bet my detector will beat your detector in range. So I say fine there’s a K-Band speed sign 5 min from my house let go see. So after a little drive we end up at a gas station about 2 KM away from the sign. I go first I pull out and almost right away I get a K-Band hit. I pull back into the gas station and he takes off. After his run he pulls back in and says he had an alert the whole way I didn’t believe him so I said I will drive behind him this time and see when his paper weight goes off lol. So right as we pull out I get a K-Band hit again but about 1 min later I get a full blast of I/O KA-band. So I immediately tap my brakes as we were going 75KM in a 60KM I tried to flash my lights to get my buddy to slow down but by the time he I saw him hit his brakes it was too late I could see the officer up ahead. So now iam thinking oh please just let us go by, but of course he didn’t he pulls out behind me and iam like OH SH*T then moves to my left passes me and pulls over my friend. I drove by called him and said ill meet you at the Tim Horton’s. So 15 min pass I finally see his car coming he pulls up first thing I see is no more Cobra I say ok what happened. He tells me the cop saw the cobra and this was the conversation they had.

Cop- know those things are illegal here right

Friend- Yeah

Cop-License, Registration, Insurance

Friend- was I going a little too fast

Cop- Yup, Can I please have that detector on your dash.

Friend- Why?

Cop- because I am confiscating it.

Friend- Oh I thought it was just a fine

Cop-Nope

So he hands it over

Cop- IT’s a cobra now I see why I got you, Should have bought a V1 or
something like that hard wired it and put it in a nice hiding spot then maybe I wouldn’t have got you.

At this point of him telling me this I started laughing so hard he got mad and yelled at me saying it was my fault. Anyways the cop comes back.

Cop- OK iam only giving you a ticket for the detector $175 I am not going to hit you with the speeding ticket.

Friend- Thanks

Cop-Next time don’t put all your faith on a detector just slow down

Friend- I will thank you officer.

Cop- Drive safe

And that was the end of it My buddy also says he didn’t get a single beep out of the cobra about KA-Band it just kept beeping K until I said it was KA he had no clue. OH man what a night it has been. MY buddy is right beside me well I am typing this and the whole time iam typing he just keeps saying it’s my fault AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I can’t help but laugh.

Go easy on him. He didn't know. He'll sell it on Ebay and he'll be on his way to owning a real RD. Tell him to get a 9500ci like mine.

Since you prompted your buddy to a detector challenge you should pay for the ticket and another cobra

he has nothing to sell the LEO took the detector. I guess he could sell the box if he still has it, probably just as useful as the cobra detector itself

What jurisdiction was the cop? Local, OPP?

Did he have a spectre?
