    Default Where should I start?

So I've had friends who use radar detectors and I think it's about time I get something.

I've been pulled over 2 times this week. Once it was for going 3 mph over the speed limit. No tickets this week. However about a month ago I was leaving California heading to college in Idaho and I got pulled over leaving the Tehachapi pass. 22 MPH over. (Wasn't paying attention at all and it switched to 65mph) I got a previous ticket in Idaho during the Summer time for 10 over.

The town I'm in is nothing but a bunch of mormon college students in Rexburg Idaho.... The cops have NOTHING to do, but pull people over. On average every drive I see 1 to 2 people pulled over.

It's getting absolutely ridiculous. I actually cringe every time I see a cop. My heart takes an extra thump even though I'm not speeding. I never go past 5 mph over now.

    I can't stand it lol...

Where do I start? What should I buy? I know this has got to be the most common questions ever, but I need any help I can get. I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra with a lift. So I'm a big fat target.

    Thanks everyone!

EDIT: If you can, let me know of any well trusted brands that tend to work at least a little. I don't want to buy a pricey piece of junk. Also weather I should get a Jammer or a Detector or both...

EDIT2: From a quick run around I saw that the V1 looks like the best radar detector? And as for a jammer it's the Blinder? Though I also read with a large truck like mine a jammers pretty useless? Thanks again!

If you want to becovered enough with out breaking the bank I would suggest a
    Escort 8500 X50 or BEL v995
With a 4 head Laser Mask laser jammer

But if you have money to spend I would suggest either a Escort 9500i, Beltronics STi or Valentine One
With a laser interceptor laser jammer
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stay away from cobra radar detectors . The Cheap($150) beltronics and Whistlers are great budget performing detectors

    Spoiler: show

    Radar Detectors-V1 & BEL v995
    Laser Jammer-Laser Interceptor Quad
    GPS Camera Locator-Cheetah C100
    GPS Nav-Garmin nuvi w/Trapster

Sounds good. I'm ready to spend the cash on some good stuff. I'm thinking the Valentine 1. Possibly a laser interceptor laser jammer too. Any recommended dealers or sites? Thanks a bunch!

Order straight from V1. Try it out for 30 days.

I'd suggest buying the two best RDs(V1 and 9500ix) direct from the manufacturer and test driving each. Then return the one you like least. Both come with a 30 day money money back guarantee. Both are completely different and you will know within a couple of weeks which you like best. The Bel STi is also as good as these two, but its biggest feature(RDD invisibility) you don't need and its overall features are not as good as the V1 and the 9500ix.

PM forum member Laser-InterceptorUSA for LI information. He is the only authorized LI dealer in the US.

Since it seems that you have a reasonably large budget, you might look into the 9500ci. I own a 9500ci, a V1 and two 9500ix's. The 9500ci is much more sensitive than either of the other two. It comes with integrated ZR4 laser jammers, but admittedly, they are not the best. With a large truck like yours, you'd have do a serious Veil job to get good results.

Like nearly everything else in life there's a bit of subjectivity involved in selecting "the best". I'd second the advice to try out each of the top of the line windshield mount radar detectors. If you have the budget for the 9500ci it's probably worth checking out as well.

If you are getting a RD and jammers, and your budget can stand it I would get the Laser Interceptor and the STi-R or 9500ci.

The 9500ci has the advantage of having GPS to lockout false alert locations and warn of redlight cameras over the STi-R. But you are paying a $500 premium for those two features since the ZR4 jammers won't do much on a truck.

I have both the STi-R and the 9500ci, The ci is quiet but the STi-R in city mode is not at all bad in regard to falses and amazing (just like the ci) on highway mode.

If you are getting a windshield mount detector and the LI's then go with the 9500ix. The GPS will give you redlight camera database and will make it very quiet in regard to false alerts.

Man, where do college students get this kind of money!!! LOL. We are talking $2450 for the LIs, $500 + for the detector, and $100 for the veil. That is a lot of cash! My wife barely let me spend the $500 for the STI.

The LI dual is $700 and the LI quad is $1225. You're confusing the HPLI with the standard LI. The OP only needs the standard LI.
