Why is it illegal to defend yourself

Hi,i live i Quebec Canada,how come it's illegal to defend yourself against being clocked by a radar,a radar detector is like a radio,it receives a signal from a certain frequency,so if the radar detector is illegal,why having a radio is legal? and do the illegality of using a radar detector also applies to a laser detector ? since it's a light beam and not radio signal,bottom line,i think the governements that bans radar detectors are the one being illegal.

Idk why it is illegal but you can purchase yourself a Bel STi and you will be fine

The intended purpose of a radar is "illegal" - It's dumb, I know. Get a 9500CI or STi...like stated above

Radar detectors are Illegal in Que ? They aren't here in BC.

I don't know how many of you are aware of this but in Canada there is a way to get around the illegalities of Radar Detectors. It should cost about $50 and requires you to take (and pass) 1 test.

It is my understanding that a ham radio operators license entitles the individual to receive all signals, and broadcast on the ham radio bands. As such you would be totally legal to receive radar making the detector legal for you to own and use. The USA also recognizes these licenses, so the same applies when your traveling south.

This is a CRTC awarded license, which is federal, and puts it above the local cops, municipal jurisdictions, and provincial rulings. The FCC recognizes the CRTC in regards to this which is why you can drive anywhere with your detector.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. It has been quite a while since I looked into this in detail. RD are legal here now and I was going to take the test right before they did that... so I didn't need to in the end.
