    Default Feature Request

I would like to have a connection coming out of the detector which could be used to turn off the cruise control based on criteria I select- laser from front, laser from rear, any Ka, K which comes up to high signal strength quickly, that sort of thing. If you are cruising at 95 in a 75, and at the first sniff of Ka the cruise kicks out, that alone will give you a nice head start on slowing down. Say for argument sake that the average reaction time from alert to putting your foot down on the brake (is about 2 seconds, and add any time you take to evaluate the situation to see if you want to hit the brakes or just let it coast down... dropping out of cruise at 95 will give you a good head start on slowing down and you can still choose to hit the brakes if you want to. But right off you instantly cut about 5 -10 MPH off your speed while you are thinking how to handle the encounter

    This will never be possible.

    Too many liability issues.

Nice idea, but like dinan said, too many possible liability issues for one to be mass-produced.

However, depending on your RD and your car, it's possible if you've got some electronic skills. On my V1, I'd tap into the LEDs... use a low-amp switch activated by the taps on the laser LED, the Ka LED and the top 3 strength LEDs. Not sure how to turn off the cruise control though. Maybe have the switch tapped into the cruise control harness from the steering wheel to the ECU. Mine has the cancel button on its own wire, splice into that and you should be good.

You've got my attention. How would you "tap in" to the LEDs, just solder a high gauge wire on one of the LED pads?

You want to make your car slow down instantly to the presence of nearby Infinitis? or satellite dishes? or Ka falses from nearby cobra users?

I dont use cruise at speeds over 80. When you are going faster than that you should be the one driving.

Have you ever driven out in West Texas?

Negative that. Is it so far out country you need to go to town to hunt?

Pretty close. Parts of it are way, way out there. It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from there...

Seriously, though - the reason I mention it is that not only is often long, remote, and dead straight, but also that the posted speed limit over much of West Texas is 80 MPH.

You can safely and securely cruise at 85 MPH right next to a DPS cruiser without any fear of a ticket, and I have seen many a driver cruising relaxed at 90 - and them not having a radar detector. I go out there a couple of times a year and I cruise 90+ with a radar detector and have never gotten popped. It's not only easy for a detector to sniff out the constabulary there, but it is also pretty easy to see the DPS vehicles a long way off.

I often set the cruise control at 90 to 95 MPH... Sometimes even more if it is really clear and traffic free.

Hell, if we are really hauling a** then often the co-driver is scoping out oncoming cars with binoculars!

No way! I'm the driver not the car! I would NEVER buy one of those new cars that automatically apply the brakes either.
