Default Recommend a RD for wife's car please

I'm looking for a RD for my wife's car. Something accurate and fairly quiet. I have a V1 in my car and am happy with it, but fear she will not like all of the alerts.

I'm leaning toward the refurb 8500, but am not sure if there are other choices in the $150 price range.

    TIA

You can pick up a Bel 955 on sale for ~170. Compared to the refurb 8500, a new 955 will be much quieter and while still maintaining long range.

    Cleavage.

I think if you want her to actually USE it, you might consider coughing up the extra money for the Escort 9500i, because it's so much quieter than everything else.

A Whistler Pro78 is quieter around town compared to the Bel Vectors or the 8500. That would be my choice for your wife.

Just don;t buy a Cobra. I bought one of their middle range units and the only thing that radar was good for was to let you know your busted

    How about a Whistler XTR550? $100 @ Sam's club and I like their return policy. Otherwise, I'm leaning toward a refurb 8500 for $150.

Ideally, I would like a detector that can share the RJ power cord from my V1. Are there any other detectors that can share the V1's 'phone jack power cord' ?

All current Bel/Escort models can use the V1's phone jack power plug.

The best bang for the buck is a refurb 8500. Its still the gold standard in radar. If you can eat rice and beans for the next 2 weeks, upgrade to the 9500ix for her since its dead silent. I run a 9500Ci in city and both 9500CI and V1 on the road.

FWIW, I ordered the refurb 8500. It seems like a good deal with a warranty and all. I plan on hardwiring it in her SUV and like the fact that I can use the same power cord and just swap in my V1 for when we take a long distance family trip in that thing.

I almost sprung for the 9500ix since Escort is offering $80 credit for my old detector (Passport 5000). Still, $420 + tax is alot to spend right now, not to mention $ for updates and such.

I love the idea of a GPS backed RD and definately see one in my future. Probably not until the next generation though.

I'd def get the Cheetah mirror for my V1 if I didn't have one of those homelink mirrors already.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
