Default Houton to Colorado! Need some tips please!

Hello all! It has been a while since I have used a radar detector. I just purchased the Whistler XTR 695. It seemed like an alright deal for the amount I had to spend. The reviews where actually pretty good.

Anyway I am driving from Houston Tx. to Breckenridge Colorado. I will be heading to Fort Worth Tx. first then on to Amarillo, New Mexico, Colorado. Is there any advise/warnings that anyone could give me? What should I look out for? What setting should I set the radar at?

Rear laser is what has me worried at this point.

Thanks to all that respond! Any help will be greatly appreciated! Trust me I will be back to post when I return to let everyone know what I think about the Whistler XTR 695.

Houston and Dallas mainly use Laser nowadays. I believe Dallas could be called the Lidar city... You need a jammer basically

So a Radar is useless? I would have to purchase a Jammer as well?

No necessarily useless, but rather less effective. I know somebody who got a laser ticket in CO, so its very much alive there.

First off, there is no need to post the exact same thread in two sections.

Colorado is the home of LTI, so laser is very abundant there.

A radar detector is good for just what the name implies, detecting radar. On laser it notifies you to pull over the LEO is coming. For laser protection you will need a laser jammer.

If your going through Estelline, TX then slow down through there. They have one officer but he is always there. It is a very small town.

I drove Lincoln, NE to Houston last week and completed the return trip today. Going south, there wasn't even one LEO last week after I crossed into TX but coming back north today I was greeted with X, K, Ka, and Laser. Basically the whole works today. The X was some local cop in a small town north of Dallas on 45. Maybe a local could confirm?

EDIT: i meant north of Dallas on 35, not 45.

On the interstates in TX, it's 99%+ radar only

Only on the RURAL Interstates. If you are inside of any town, and even many rural counties, you have to worry about laser. I get hit by laser regularly on the Interstates going between Fort Worth and Houston and Austin. There is very little DPS in Tarrant County (Fort Worth) or Dallas County. The Interstates are mostly patrolled by cities, sheriff's, and constables running laser. And you'll see that all over the state, except after you get west of Fort Worth. From there to the western border, it's almost exclusively radar.

A radar detector isn't "useless". But if that is all you are using, you're setting yourself up for failure, because it's going to give you just enough confidence to get pwn3d by laser. If you are not protected against both, you're crazy to drive much over PSL.
