Ok, here's the situation: I've got an Escort Passport 8500 X50 in my car. I got my girlfriend a Cobra XRS 9300 to remind her of when there's a cop nearby, as she doesn't go too fast beyond the speed of traffic, but she needs to be reminded. When I got my car last December, my dad gave me his old detector, a Radio Shack which is a model I'm not entirely certain of. Pictures of the Radio Shack detector are below in case anyone knows anything about the model. Today, I picked up a Whistler DE-1730 at Best Buy (I don't work there anymore, but $25 for a decent detector is too good of a deal to pass up).
Here are a couple shots of the Radio Shack:
Now, the situation:
I'd like to give my dad a detector, either give him his back or give him one of the other two. My girlfriend hardly ever uses the Crapra, as it's better at detecting itself (it shows a Ka alert when we're literally the only car on an empty desert road miles from civilization), so she's offered to give that one back to me. I had been using the Radio Shack as my backup.
My dad does drive somewhat quickly at times, but he's really mellowed in his old age (a number I won't quote as I'm sure it would make some people here feel very, very old) in terms of how often he speeds and how fast he goes. It's important to note that he lives in speed-trap-happy Jacksonville, Florida. I'd feel bad about leaving my girlfriend detectorless, as despite her arguments to the contrary, she does need one.
So, given the detectors at hand, and understanding that my X50 isn't going anywhere until I upgrade my detector (probably still a handful of years away unless there's some huge jump in technology at a comparable price, especially since I got it in July/August), how would you distribute the remaining 3 detectors among the following:
Old man:
Girlfriend:
Backup for the X50:
Any opinions are helpful and welcome, as I'm having a hard time deciding for myself.
*edit-The Radio Shack is a 22-1654. I have no idea if that means anything to anyone.*
