Default Is the V1 good or not?!?

Ok, so by my own admission I'm a reletive newcomer to the radar community. However,.. I've owned a couple of detectors in the past and I always go online and read up on things before I buy them. In more than one place online (places that do testing on radar performance) it always seemed like the V1 was always way behind the pack, and the reviewers would talk about it like it was sort of an antiquated platform that sort of fell behind Beltronics and Escort..

Now that I started using this site, I'm seeming a whole lot of V1 love and I'm sort of confused by that.. Is the V1 just sort of a recognized brand and has a loyal following no matter what, or were the reviews that I've been reading biased for some reason?

Many of the reviewers were heavily biased in the old reviews. In my opinion from it invention until recent years it was hands down the best detector available. Some of the little features it missed, but they weren't a big deal.

That said, I was a V1 user and have switched to Escort because I feel they've caught V1. Based on my testing the range of my V1 and my 9500ix were very simmilar and my 9500ci blows both away. The features of the GPS based Escorts to me is a huge advantage over the V1. Also I feel the later V1's aren't as good as the earlier units. I feel my 1.7 V1 I upgrade to get the 1.8 was a better unit than the new one.

There's a lot of drama/politics that surround the radar detector/laser jammer industry. My best advice would be to try the products you are interested in and use the money back guarantee of each manufacturer and decide for yourself which product is right for YOU. Good luck!

X2. The V1 may be old but its certainly a top performer with its loyal fans. Only way to know what’s best is to test it your self.

Got to watch out, their are a lot of sites out there with a agenda against a particular brand of detectors. You have to get reviews from unbiased sources I would go to Radar Detector Tests and Reviews by Guys of LIDAR, they do about the best job. Stay away from RadarTest.com - Best radar detector reviews from the world's most respected authority. and anything from Craig Peterson he has a agenda. His reviews are really dated and his info is not even in the ballpark of correct. My favorite are his graphs that show the STI getting 11.5 miles of range on KA and the V1 at 7 miles. I own them both of them and the KA on the STI is good but not 50% better, they are more like tied in most cases, or the V1 responding just a second or two ahead.

All I can say is I love mine. And you get 30 days to see if it's for you, if not send it back and try Escort for 30 days.

Of the windshield mounts there none better then the V1. Now there is a couple that are close to it and at times they might beat it but they are not any better. I'm talking about the 9500ix and the STI.

Thumbs up Re: Is the V1 good or not?!?

    V-1 offers
    • the highest overall quality
    • most consistant quality - lower % defective units shipped, fewer quirky problems
    • most consistant responses - linear, reliable ramping
    • the most useful presentation of information - it just makes sense
    • sensitivity AND response matched by few(if any) others

    fly with a V-1 and the others seem something like . . . . . . . . . . . an Edsel

Be wary of reviewers that heap praise on the Bel/Escort detectors and bash the V1.

Alot of these "professional testers" are either paid by the manufacturers for their "reviews" or else they receive free detectors for their tests. The problem with free detectors from the manufacturer is that you never know if the detector has been enhanced for better performance.

Also, be wary of "tests" that are little more than phoney sales pitches from retailers. (If you sell Bel/Escort, do you think you would rate them as poor performers?)

The V1 has consistently shown itself to be the most sensitive windshield mounted detector available.

The V1 is excellent. The only thing is if you can put up with all the 'falses' or not.
