what would you consider a suitible detector for someone who isnt stupid or concerned with avoiding lasers

The cheapest detector worth owning would be in the $150 to $200 dollar range. Those would include the BEL 955, or a refurbished Escort 8500 from eBay. Both fine detectors, but with only basic features. You can spend up to $400 to $500 dollars and get better sensitivity, more features, or a quieter detector. Depends on what you want in a detector. But both of those are actually good performers, and all most drivers would ever want or need.

ok, then in your personal opinion, since you seem to have one at least by your own experience, what would be a good, cost effecient detector, jammer is out of the question since i guess they really are upwards of fourteen hundred

and my windows are tinted, but due to the vehicles age, and not at all classic nature, makes it a hard to come by vehicle so they know me.

It's not that simple. Choosing a detector is like choosing a woman. They all have different personalities, and we all want something a little different. Again, it depends on what you want in a detector.

Do you want to just plug it in and forget about it, letting it decide for you what is a threat and what is not, and slamming on the brakes anytime it makes a sound? Or do you want a technologically interactive experience, where it feeds you situational awareness, for you to decide what and where the threat is and act accordingly? Is the radar detector likely to become something you take an actual interest in, or just a tool? Do you want the absolute best protection at all costs, or do you want a compromise between protection and quietness? Or do you just want something reasonable that will get the job done?

well a detector is like a wrench, its a tool to fix a problem. after the problem is fixed, i want it for nothing more than looking pretty
